Alan Ochsenbein, '68, writes that "when I was at Allegheny in 1964-1968, there was no one who I even suspected of being gay. Bruce Shewitz '73 is the first-president of the newly incorporated vocal ensemble Good Company: A Vocal Ensemble, which was recently granted not-for-profit status by the IRS. Most of the members in the 15-member group, which presents several concerts each season featuring a wide range of choral literature, are gay or lesbian. Good Company is also a proud member of the GALA choruses organization and hopes to attend the quadrennial GALA convention in San Jose in 2000. Paula Coyle-Wurst '80, hosted thirteen Allegheny students in April for an alternative spring break. Students worked with City Year Boston doing inner city volunteer projects.
Stephen Sheftz, '83, has been busy as Director of Music at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis. At the beginning of May he conducted a concert which included Chichester Psalms by Leonard Bernstein and Missa Brevis by Zoltan Kodaly.
