In the last Caucus newsletter the membership was asked to confirm their personal information and fill out a membership survey which would allow the Caucus steering committee to gain a better understanding of the wants and needs of the Caucus members. Though not all of the surveys have been returned to date, preliminary results are in.
In the area of general guidance for the Caucus, of greatest
importance to those who responded to date was the establishment of a
mentor program for undergraduates and recent graduates (71%). Holding
activities during Allegheny Homecoming and Reunion weekends as well
as providing a forum for professional networking both garnered 58% of
the respondents interest. Holding local chapter social events was
also of interest to 46% of the respondents.
Making the contents of the newsletter and the world wide web site
reflect the wishes of the membership was another section of the
survey. An overwhelming 71% wanted articles about glb issues and
events from campus. 66% of those who responded want a rainbownotes
section as well as information on networking and outreach.
63% of the respondents signed up to be on an e-mail list which
disseminates information about Caucus activities and events from
campus.
When asked about what the members would be most likely to participate in, several answers received high votes. 66% wanted to be an active member of the Caucus while 46% said they would contribute money to the caucus. Helping to organize events in their home areas were 38% of those who responded, while 33% said they would be interested in writing for the newsletter. (We're waiting for you!) 25% said they would be interested in finding other alums interested in joining the caucus.
We look forward to getting more surveys back from the membership and
to begin implementing the suggestions put forth. Your continued
