OUR TRIP TO FLORIDA

In late July, USAirways posted some E-Savers fares from Philadelphia. Since the apartment was hot and I hadn't been around too much as of late, I decided that Jim and I needed to take a trip to Florida. Also, since I had a voucher from the airline and first class upgrades for flying so much, I didn't pay for my ticket and upgraded us to First Class both ways. We essentially paid $137 for tickets that would have cost us almost $2400.

The first day we were there, we tried to go to Cypress Gardens, but since we had to fly into Tampa and didn't get in until early afternoon, we would have only had an hour and a half to go through the place, which I knew wouldn't have been enough time. So, we went back to the hotel, took a quick nap (since we had been up and traveling since 6 AM), went to dinner and drove around Orlando.

The second day, we paid a visit to the Magic Kingdom. Since we got there early on a Sunday, the park wasn't too overly crowded. In addition, I don't do rollercoasters so the longest lines weren't ones we had to worry about. We had a great time while there. I didn't know it at the time, but I also fulfilled one of Jim's lifelong fantasies and it was way too easy. Since he was young, he had always wanted to ride the Mad Hatter's Teacups. Well, since it was one of my favorite rides, you bet we made sure we went on it. I couldn't have been happier doing this for him. It was the kind of break we needed.

It was funny, but while Jim was in the stocks, I found out he didn't know what they were. Of course, coming from the West Coast he wouldn't have known. They weren't in use any longer by the time the area he's from was settled.

Since we finished up with the Magic Kingdom relatively early and weren't ready to head back to the hotel yet, I decided we'd do another first for him. I drove us out to Daytona Beach where he could see the Atlantic Ocean for the first time. It was a bit of a shock to him to find out that the water was so warm since it's incredibly cold in Washington and Oregon.





Since we had only one more day, we spent it at Epcot. We had a great time although we had to go through the park quickly and miss quite a bit. We had a plane to catch back in Tampa and when we left I didn't think we were going to make it, but we were just fine.
