This issue:
Mid December, both the museum and the art centre were demolished - not only the pictures were deleted, but the entire settings - buildings, trees and flowers included. No warning, no questioning, just like that - *poof*. Since a few weeks, Immigration Officer has greeted us with the url to COF's "Active Worlds Content Guidelines", a long document telling us what is prohibited in AW, and besides gives COF the right to play God; "COF does not verify, endorse or otherwise vouch for the contents of any World. ... Users who are in violation of the COF Content Guidelines may have their membership revoked, services cancelled and their worlds or properties, or portions of their properties, removed without warning, in which event COF will not return the removed properties or Worlds to the offending member". In other words, COF can not be held responsible to any world's content, neither the museums of BEARWORLD, but they still use their right to delete whatever they find offending - without warning. Why COF? This is not good enough for any of us! Hardly any user have read the "terms", and for BEARWORLD's case, those terms must have been introduced long time after the deleted galleries were built. COF may have as many rights as they like, but please add a line to the Terms, saying; "COF will do our best to trace the builder and warn him/her before any property is damaged". BEARWORLD's galleries were located in one of AW's more active communities, and it shouldn't be too difficult to find a mailbox nearby, or to trace the galleries' owner by checking the objects. The guys of BEARWORLD are naturally fighting back; "Our site was in a very remote area and never bothered anyone. Also, even if some pictures bothered them, they [COF] could have simply asked us, and anyway they should not have deleted the buildings." A Pink Village citizen asks: "How safe is Pink Village from such similar and unprovoked destruction?". And, personally I'd like to ask COF; How many buildings will have to go per picture? PV citizens and friends are welcome to contribute, will you organise the building of the 98 museum? We also need several persons performing on stage at the Pink Gala (poems, comedians, drama acts, etc). Or you might want to create a special script for a bot if you don't like that much attention yourself?:) Contact the PV Council to sign up, deadline is January 25th, but the sooner the better... It's also time to elect the Pink Village Council, that will be given a special responsibility throughout 1999. If you like to volunteer, contact Bille. No skills are required, but you need to be a citizen since 3 months, at least. We need 2 councillors, and if more than 2 persons are interested, there will be anonymous voting. Deadline for "applying" for councillors is January 20th. Happy Birthday, everyone! Let's prepare the celebrations, and invite all our friends - it'll be one of those days when Real Life makes no sense:)
Suburbs...well, maybe you never really cared for them (neither did I), but one you might want to check out is Lesbianville, a suburb dedicated to Lesbians, Bisexual women, and their friends. Male friends of any orientation are also welcome to visit, and maybe even to build, but so far, Lesbianville is VERY small with only a few slots on which to build. Expansion is never out of the question, however. :) Take a picture tour of Lesbianville, and if you wish to be on the Lesbianville e-mail list, or request a lot, e-mail Idealist. Each prisoner in the concentration camps wore a coloured inverted triangle to designate their reason for incarceration, and hence the designation also served to form a sort of social hierarchy among the prisoners. A green triangle was used by regular criminals; a red triangle by political prisoners, two yellow triangles overlapping to form a Star of David designated a Jewish prisoner, and the pink triangle was for homosexuals. Finally, a yellow Star of David under a superimposed pink triangle marked the lowest of all prisoners - a gay Jew. The black triangle is also rooted in Nazi Germany. Although lesbians were not included in the Paragraph 175 prohibition of homosexuality, there is evidence to indicate that the black triangle was used to designate prisoners with anti-social behaviour, such as lesbians, prostitutes, women who refused to bear children, and women with other "anti-social" traits. As the pink triangle is historically a male symbol, the black triangle has similarly been reclaimed by lesbians and feminists as a symbol of pride and solidarity. Today, for many the pink triangle represents pride, solidarity, and a promise to never allow another Holocaust to happen again.
