AMUSING YOURSELF TO DEATH #3
PO Box 91934
Santa Barbara, CA 93190-1934
($2)
Now that Factsheet 5 isn’t coming out as often, and when it does,
the reviews are bland, anyway, more and more review zines are
cropping up. Right now, AYTD seems to feature reviews of the
most interesting zines that would grace the pages of F5; the
reviews are long. My only complaint is that I like cheap zines, I like
small type and tiny margins, and this zine doesn’t really meet that.
Nevertheless, it’s a good, budding resource. 8 1/2” x 11”, 24
pages.
ANNOYING GIRL #3 and #4
1 Prospect Ave.
Garden City, NY 11530
($2)
#3: This is so cute! There’s stories about seeing Weezer at
Roseland, interviews with the Suicide Machines, eclectics,
Unwritten Law, and Assorted Jellybeans, ramblings by friends, a
review of Unwritten Law and 22 Jacks, cute comix about anal
crusties, and more fun stuff. All the stories are really aimless and
goofy, which is good and funny, but I’m not going to list them all
here because it would kill the plots. This zine is really sweet. 5 1/2”
x 8 1/2”, 52 pages.
#4: This zine is so fun! This issue starts out with pranks - I don’t
want to ruin them, though. Also, there are plenty of rants by Lucy
and Kelly’s friends about minimum wage, a story by John about
trying to buy a cheap porno movie in NYC, Ruth’s thoughts on boys
and deodorant, stories about fire and girl fights by Lucy and Kelly,
a rant against straight edge fascism, an account of math teachers,
and interviews with Jimmy Eats World, Less Than Jake, Weston,
and Latex Generation. Also, there is charming instructions on how
to be an annoying girl, reviews, and other bits. This is so funny
and cool! 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, 52 pages.
ARRAY #3
636 Pierce Drive
Youngstown, OH 44511
($2)
This is the sex issue. I love theme zines! This issue has results of
a high school sex survey Amanda did, thoughts on sex and
queerness, virginity, how parents deal with teen sexuality, abortion,
masturbation, stories of Mardi Gras, nerds, and lots more. The art
is kickass... This review is really short, but don’t let that throw you
off. This zine is packed full of information and different
perspectives on sex. Essential. 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, 52 pages.
THE ASSASSIN AND THE WHINER #3 and #6
PO Box 481051
Los Angeles, CA 90048
($1)
#3 Well, this issue is rather old - 2 years to be exact, but Carrie
sent it, so I’m going to review it. #6: More slice of life comix from
Carrie. Stuff on hating fall, her cat eating a spider, seeing Uma
Thurman, finding out someone hit her parked car, creaming over
office supplies, her mom finding out about her tongue piercing,
dealing with sexual frustration, living in L.A., etc. Carrie’s comix
always amaze me. She has the best, stark, kind of cubist style.
Carrie’s stories in this issue include her grandfather’s death, daily
living, “Hand” - about violence, returning to Seattle, a really sad and
funny story about a man who was passing out cards requesting a
date to women on the street, being too afraid to demand that her
ex return her stuff, struggling with her drinking, having a cold, and
more. I love how Carrie embraces the most real aspects of
humanity. 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, 24 pages.
BAA!: I’M A SHEEP #3
Shari
100 Milani Ct.
Los Gatos, CA 95030
e-mail: tmsd50b@prodigy.com
($1 + 2 stamps or trade)
This zine is totally packed with stuff about Shari and her friends.
This reads like a coming of age novel, so I totally love it. There are
pieces on beauty vs. brains (my response: why do girls always get
stuck in the dichotomy of one or the other? I think both are equally
important, and hence, I do not want one or the other; I want both),
Shari’s alienation (what’s real and what’s perceived), death and
suicide, “isolation vs. education”, dorkiness, school dances, and
more 8th grade melodrama. Very cool, and Shari makes good use
of the space. This really reminds me of how I was in 8th grade,
even down to the little details like being a Gemini, but wanting to be
a Pisces. 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, 68 pages.
BABYKINS #9
Amykins
25 Wilner Rd.
Somers, NY 10589
($1 + a stamp or equal trade)
Babykins is so cute! Amy has an obsession with cats, you can tell
by the cover, which boasts “your ticket to a kittylicious time”. This is
the European vacation issue, so we get reviews of dance clubs in
Greece, a barf story, a story about scary mean drunk British guys
in the room next to hers in Greece, a centerfold dedicated to “kittys
in Greece”, a really funny story about a gross customer at her job in
a drug store, not wanting to grow up (hey, Amy, we’re the same
age!), a memorial to her late Babykins, Amy’s cat. Plus, zine
reviews. Very sweet. 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, 20 pages.
BALLROOM ETIQUETTE #2
Jessika
1691 Muller Dr.
Napa, CA 94559
(Jessika has a new PO Box, but I lost it... I think this address will
still work.. Sorry, Jessika.)
($1, 2 stamps, or trade)
This is a girl-powered cut-n-paste zine with a queer slant and alot
of youthful attitude. This issue has exceprts professing her love for
Kurt Cobain from 3 years ago, project listings, a really dark Emily’s
Sassy Lime pictoral, a piece on how the editor censors herself for
the public - something I’m sure all zinesters can relate to, pics and
reasons behind why she loves various celebrities (Kennedy, Jenny
Shimuzu, Tim Burton, etc.), thoughts on her habit of forming
long-distance relationships, the “Icky Boy Gallery”, the cutest comic
called “Princess Dyke” made with rubber stamps, writing on
Jessika’s fear of rape, a good interview with Jody Bleyle of Team
Dresch/Hazel, although I think something is lost in mail interviews,
and “Riot Grrrl Chicana Style”, which is kind of misleading. Also,
there is an excellent quote by Kathleen Hanna about how girls are
all different and we should respect that as feminists, a rant on how
riot grrrl is not dead, a rant on special interest groups that I felt was
really ignorant towards the nature of oppression and the need for
special interest groups as a result that I don’t think was written by
Jessika, and other bits. Also, all the ads come on a little insert,
which is a good idea. This is a really good effort, and Jessika has
alot to say, so don’t let my criticism of two pieces totally turn you
off. 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, 36 pages.
BEAUTIFUL JUST LIKE ME
Angela
400 Gordon Street
Zeeland, MI 49464
($1 + 2 stamps?)
Angela said she might quit printing this, but nevertheless, this zine
is a collection of rational and passionate pieces on equality,
Angela’s pregnancy and how she dealt with it, thoughts on
abortion, veganism, how lacking courage has affected her,
confronting her mother for her abuse, thoughts on school, and the
word “faggot” being turned around in a homophobic way. The
layout is a bit plain, but the text makes up for it. 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, 32
pages.
BEER ZINE
PO Box 481051
Los Angeles, CA 90048
($2)
This is a compilation about drinking alcohol. It's mostly comix with
a couple of stories. My only complaint is that Beer Zine lacks
continuity a bit, since it is a comix anthology, but don't let that turn
you off - the artists featured include Carrie (The Assassin and the
Whiner), Ian Lyman (Migraine), John Porcellino (King Cat Comix),
Ros (Garbles), among many other talents. Some of my picks in
this issue include Carrie's diagrams of herself drunk vs. herself
hungover, Jennifer Newell's hilarious guide to drinking, Ian Lyman
and Frank's "Pure Sin" about making out with someone while he
was drunk and having to puke in the middle of it, Julee Peasley's
tiny drunk page ("I called lots of people tonight. No one is as happy
as me."), Tim Brown's comic about never having been drunk, Ros'
outrageous comic about peeing in her favorite chair while drunk,
and Stever Skeates' monotone comic about recalling an evening of
being drunk. 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", 52 pages.
BILLY’S MITTEN #8
6255 E. Via de la Yerba
Tucson, AZ 85750
($1, 3 stamps, or trade)
I found myself re-reading this zine over and over. There is
something about it that is just screaming that there is more to
being a teenager that mindless fashion drivel, but Theresa seems
too well-adjusted to spend pages and pages whining about it,
instead she jumps in and makes a really nifty alternative. She
writes about school, being a teen, and more, but this review got all
fucked up while I was trying to convert it, and I don’t have Billy’s
Mitten with me right now to remind me of all the contents! Sorry!
Theresa makes alot of good points in here, plus, we get lists and
stuff by Seth Heroes for Today. I got some newer issues from
Theresa, plus Go Teen Go!, which is really cool, and will be
reviewed next time. 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, 28 pages.
BITCH vol. 2 #1
3128 16th Street
Box 201
San Francisco, CA 94103
($2.50)
This is a really pro-looking zine. I would not be at all surprised to
find this on the shelves at “Barnes and Noble” in a few months.
This is the sex issue, and at first, I was expecting a series of
essays and rants, in true zine fashion, looking at sex from various
angles, but all linear-ly. Instead, I find the feature pieces written
from a perspective that relates them to sex and various
perspectives. I recommend Bitch just for the Sarah Jacobson
interview (she’s a young film-maker) that discusses masturbation,
the lack of realistic portrayls of women in film, and her thoughts on
various movies that influenced her. This issue also features
intelligent and funny commentary on Cosmopolitan an Redbook
magazines, miscellaneous pop culture tidbits, comparing Details to
Playboy, Chris Isaak, and thoughts from the editor of Paramour on
women and pornography, or rather women in pornography. Also,
there is an interesting-looking interview with Lisa Palac, the woman
behind The Edge of the Bed, a book about sex and pop culture,
various sex magazines, and a series of CD-roms. Bitch reminds
me of Ms., if Ms. was less hypocritical and more in-your-face. Also,
Bitch gives exposure to heterosexuality while maintaining a very
queer-positive atmosphere. 8 1/2” x 11”, 36 pages.
BLOCKHEAD #5
Brock
PO Box 11
Hayti, SD 57241
($1 + stamps or trade)
Brock does a really endearing little zine. He writes this time about
his grandmother’s death, coming out stories that are both inspiring
and sad, having to hide being queer around acquantances and
wondering what they would think if they knew, a short interview with
Christine of Destroy the Evidence, ads, and other bits about
Brock’s life. 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, 16 pages.
BOOK FOR GIRLS
Lady Elaine
PO Box 1305
Olympia, WA 98507-1305
($1 + 2 stamps or trade)
Sorry I lost the price on this... This is a pretty art zine with some
poems. The art is absolutely beautiful, the poems are as well, and
for the most part, stand without cliches. Such topics as eating
disorders and childhood brutality are covered. 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, 12
pages.
BORELANDO #1 (?)
Mimi Ilano
417 Ruggles
1116 Amsterdam
NYC 10027
($1)
This is Mimi’s preview for her new comix, and I can’t wait for a
bigger one! I would compare Mimi’s style to a cross between
Adrian Tomine and the “Sandman” comic. There are stories about
a boy all the alternative girls liked at her high schoola rant on
anti-feminist backlash by other anti-P.C. types, a story about a
pregnant girl whose boyfriend leftstories about hanging out in New
York, her crazy job selling stuff at big, commercial raves, that ends
with her cloning the perfect boy! 7” x 8 1/2”, 16 pages.
BOTTOM FEEDER #1
Robyn Stephens
201 Vairo Blvd. Apt. 216A
State College, PA 16803
($1)
This zine is really impressive, especially since it’s a first issue.
There is an angry rant on make-up and prescribed beauty
standards, being annoyed by fast food, scams, date reviews ala
The Probe, movie reviews, listings of shit to do/places to go in
Pennsylvania, the history behind the Open Door Policy, “sex
exercises”, drunken rambling, legal shit and other advice to help
you out so you don’t get ripped off or screwed over, tales of being
stuck in a college town during the summer, advice on credit cards,
knitting instructions for all you crafty types, dating, hair-dye tips,
and alot more. This is like a punk rock version of those
home-making mags in the supermarket check-out combined with
sensible advice from Mom. Entertaining and informative - I think
most people will find BF to be a practical resource, as I have; highly
recommended. 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, 56 pages.
CANDY FUN #2
Kim
455 Key Road
Collierville, TN 38017
e-mail:LCXH53A@prodigy.com
($1 or trade)
This is a cute zine by a 14-year old feminist. All these zines by 14
and 15-year old girls are so wonderful and spirited! Anyway, my
only complaint about this is the BIG type. It looks like 12 or 14
points or like large print books from the library, but I think all of you
know about my bias for tiny, impossible-to-read type. This issue
talks about Kim’s 8 cats! I think cat zines are becoming a new
genre! worship of Ernie Bushmiller’s “Nancy”, an account of her
involvement in a statutory rape case, a rant on homophobia in
Christianity with bits on Kim’s scary school, an invite to discussion
about drugs in the zine community, tons of zine reviews, book
listings, and more. Kim seems really smart. 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, 32
pages.
CEILINGS PEEL #18
Heather Burnett
21098 Sioux Road
Apple Valley, CA 92308-7067
e-mail: GrrrlAnne@aol.com
When I started reading this, at first, I found some of the writing to
be a little too vague, a little out of reach, and then I got to this part
about how Heather remembers how she was 4 and 5 years ago
and I totally related to that.. Heather is stuck in between being an
adult and a teenager, and I think anyone in a similat place inlife will
find something in here thay can relate to, and I found that like, half
of what Heather says is so truthful and good that even I, a person
who is so irritated by quotations, would quote her. 7” x 8 1/2”, 20
pages.
COFFEE BREAK #6
Flat 1
61 Meadrow
Godalming
Surrey GU7 3HS
UK
(50p)
My friend Fran does this punk zine along with Pim. There are rants
about girls in Britpop, working, college, the microcosm mentality in
punk, Wicca as a bullshit religion, thoughts in Internet censorship,
reviews, interviews with Los Crudos, the singer for Snap-Her (she
seems like a rather shitty person from the interview), Zoinks!, and a
profile of J Church. I love the enthusiasm throughout, although
sometimes, Fran and Pim’s loyalty to punk rock seems a little too
zealous. They use the best English slang! 8 1/2” x 11”, 28 pages.
COMING OUT OF SILENCE
Earthwell DC
(202) 625 2723
This is a kind of old booklet from a bunch of leftist groups in DC.
Articles on HIPS (Helping Individual Prostitutes Survive), sexual
harassment, New Moon magazine, choice, rape, feminism, and DC
contacts. 7” x 8 1/2”, 24 pages.
CUPSIZE #5
PO Box 4326
Stonybrook, NY 11790-4326
($2)
This is a well-done effort. The printing is nice, yet the layout is still
erractic at points, and the content is eclectic and fun, but doesn’t
stray away from the general theme. This issue follows Tara Emelye
and Sasha, two hip college graduates through their trails and
adventures. There are a few pages dedicated to obsessions,
which reminded me of that column “What Now” from Sassy
magazine, “Tales of Snow and Milk”, Tara Emelye recounts her
college graduation, a well-written essay on industrial exploitation of
third world nations, a lengthy article about misguided efforts in
feminism that Sasha orginially wrote for The Village Voice, an
interview with Ann Powers, the editor of The Village Voice and the
book Rock She Wrote, kind of stream-of-conscious thoughts from
Tara Emelye on space and real estate, readers debate pulic and
private education, traveling, zines, and more. 7” x 8 1/2”, 36
pages.
CUSS #2
Shannon
Chatham College
Box 346
Pittsbugh, PA 15232
($1 or trade)
Shannon says this is the last Cuss, unfortunately. Shannon writes
about coming out to her dad, which I totally commend her for;
that’s really scary. Also, loving Jody Bleyle, lots of writing on the
various aspects of womanhood and lesbianism that is really
touching at points, a tribute to Audre Lorde, and alot of other bits
that are hard to pigeonhole. 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, 24 pages.
CUTIEPIE #5
Melon
2901 Parklawn Ct.
Herndon, VA 20171
($1? or trade)
Most of Cutiepie seems to be poetry that I would compare to stuff
you see in Huggy Bear records. Also, there is a survey and little
personal details about Melon’s life. Plus, a great centerfold of
Melon that reads “5’5” of sheer TERROR”! 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, 24
pages.
DEAD MEAT
Jolie
728 N. Union
Union City, IN 47390
(a stamp?)
This is the Dead Meat newsletter. There is also an interview with
Emily’s Sassy Lime and contacts. 8 1/2” x 11”, 6 pages.
DORON COMICS
Karen Braun
PO Box 7697
Torrence, CA 90504
(2 stamps)
This is a really short comic that has some puns in it and drawings
of aliens and genetically engineered fish. Unfortunately, I didn’t
really understand it. 8 1/2” x 5 1/2”, 8 pages.
DROP OUT! #4
c/o Hindenburg
1114 21st
Sacremento, CA 95814
($1)
This is a very cool newspaper. I was a high school dropout, and
even though I have since graduated and I am back in the public
education insitution, I am still very interested in issues concerning
students and public school. This issue has a really cool list of
upcoming events, anti-school articles, clarifying the difference
between homeschooling, unschooling, and deschooling, stories
from punk teachers, stories from kids that challenged their schools,
Raymond Cushing talks about why he prefers hiring dropouts at his
work, free schools, anarchist gatherings, a fair amount of coverage
of queer issues for students, police, and lots of recommended
books and zines related to anti-school sentiments. This is a great,
inspiring resource for all young people and may make you think
about school in a different light if you like school. large newsprint,
16 pages.
FLASH POINT #1 and #2
Shannon Colebank
PO Box 5591
Portland, OR 97228
($3 for #1, $4 for #2)
I really don’t know where to begin. These zines are both really
great, especially #2. #1 is an anthology of writings on religion.
Shannon covers religious influence in politics, abuses within
religion, the affects of religion on life, etc. This issue primarily
attacks Islamic religion and Christianity/Catholicism, and in
comparison to #2, I would have liked to see more organization and
origional material, but nevertheless, this is a mind-boggling attempt.
#2 approaches the confusing issue of gender. There are five
sections that address social structutre, living in patriarchy,
anti-gender sentiments, “anger and hostility”, and possible solution.
All kinds of sexual persuasions are represented, and I don’t mean,
straight, bi, gay - pick one, lesbians in male bodies, transexuals,
people wh mix up common definitions of straight/bi/gay, etc. Also,
there is alot of discussion on abuse and how feminity and
masculinity are twisted and destroyed as a result. This is so
incredible. I haven’t even read all of it, and it has already really
changed the way I look at gender. Shannon does an excellent job
of tying all the pieces together. A must read. 8 1/2” x 11”, 62 and
88 pages, respectively.
GIRLWIZE #1, 2, and 3!
22 Albany Cir.
Beverly, MA 01915
e-mail: Kathlee746@aol.com
($1)
I like Kathleen’s drawings of herself . #1 has alot of poetry and
bits, web linx, funny quotes from her grandma, memories, true
prose about queer romance, account of a mental hospital, and
more. #2 has love letters and poetic thoughts on Kathleen’s lsot
love, what happened when Kathleen saw a childhood best friend
and how her response made her think about about friendship, more
thoughts on the psychiatric hospital, zine reviews, small town
observations, hilarious NKOTB memories, and more. The pieces
on the mental hospital andqueerness were my favorite. Kathleen
has a knack for beautiful descriptions. The layouts make the zine a
little messy and disorganized, but the writing is really powerful. #3
still follows Kathleen’s style and theme, but the space is used
better, and I think the writing is better. There are little pieces of
writing, a love letter, girl-girl safe sex, thoughts on women in the
Bible, a really sad letter to her sister, who has since passed away,
contacts, memories, thoughts on queerness, and alot more. 5
1/2” x 8 1/2”, 24 pages, 8 1/2” x 11”, 28 pages, 8 1/2” x 5 1/2”, 52
pages.respectively.
GOOD FAERIE #12 1/2
Gretchen Lewther
18345 Page Court
Homewood, IL 60430-3320
($1 + a stamp?)
Some of the type in here is way too small to even read, but with
that aside, there is alot of type that is easy to read, and its really
good stuff. I felt like a psychiatrist, reading Gretchen’s journals or
something. Even her drawings tell secrets, I think. There are
interviews with Lip Kandy and Layla of Skinned Teen, but Gretchen
doesn’t blow up the interviews to be the big highlight of the issue.
They aren’t advertised on the cover or anything, so I get a really
humanistic feel throughout the whole thing. Gretchen’s writing
makes me think of people in school that never ever talk, except
when a teacher calls on them, to which they emit an inaudible
whisper, but she says in Good Faerie that she goes out with people
and talks and stuff, so I guess she isn’t one of those really quiet
types. But, do you know what I mean, when I see those kids, I
always know they are geniuses and have tons of thoughts and if
they would say them all, it would sound like Godd Faerie (except
when Gretchen talks about conversations and hanging out, duh). 5
1/2” x 4 1/2”, 56 pages.
HAG RAG #2
Skuld the Rag Hag
c/o Martinez
PO Box 51538
Lighthouse Point, FL 33074
($2 or trade)
Skuld is so rad! This is her catalog of goods including bleach and
dioxin-free reuseable pads, handmade runes, patches, oils, books,
and games. Skuld will also give you a tarot or rune reading for a
small fee, I think. Also, the reader gets pages and pages of good
articles from other zines, a best of, if you will. It’s totally great
reading on women’s issues. Also, Skuld likes to print tattoo
pictures, send send yours in, if you have any! Recommended,
especially if you are an art freak or Wiccan. 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, 40
pages.
HAPPY HOUR #1
Helga Romoser
3426 Carlson Blvd.
El Cerrito, CA 94530
($2)
Helga’s comix are so cool! Everyone in them has a big, bulbous
nose, and she draws these mean, tough Amazon ladies. Helga’s
married with a family, so alot of her stories revolve around that;
she’s always teasing her husband Peter for being lazy and for
farting alot, and she jeers at stereotypes of women! Wonderful and
funny. 8 1/2” x 11”, 26 pages.
HOLLYHOCK #5
Lida
211 Dewitt Ave.
Belleville, NJ 07109-2529
($1 + 2 stamps?)
This issue has writing on vulnerability, girl relationships and
jealousy, criticism about the NYC riot grrrl convention and riot grrrl
in general, thoughts on her race, alot of somewhat vague prose on
alienation, sadness, etc., anti-alien comix, band photos and more.
The layout is really clean; this kind of reminds me of Lauren
Martin’s zines, but is unique as its own. 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, 36 pages.
INDEPENDENT PUSSY #2
PO Box 2804
Tulsa, OK 74010-2804
($1)
Wow, this issue looks so much more full than #1! There is a good
mix of some of the better things to come out of 2nd wave feminims
as well as lots of radical anarchist perspectives. This issue has
articles and arguments on birth control (the pill) and how-to do an
herbal abortion with the first few weeks, vegetarianism, sisterhood,
being pro-choice, helping survivors, activism, preventing yeast
infections, genital mutilation, books, zines, and more. This reminds
me of MadWoman a little bit. 8 1/2” x 11”, 16 pages.
JASMINE’S LITTLE SISTER #6
Ocean Capewell
134 Radcliff Drive
East Norwich, NY 11732
($1 + 2 stamps or trade)
This is the most recent incarnation of Sillywish and Racing Nothing.
This time, we get more of Ocean’s outrageous quotes: “Yeah!!!
Keep the top off the glue until there’s half an inch of crust!!! That’ll
make the zine sell real wel.”, “You’re a high-fat broccoli soup
breath!”, zine reviews, depresssion, “Simpsons” quotes, a story
about going to a show that is more about being scared of people
than the band that played, a reprint of some fiction by Louis
Sachar, top5 lists (Under “the top 5 “Self-Help Books my bus could
write” we have “7 Habits of Highly Effective Fake Homies”!), stories
about her weird neighbors, random stories involving rock stars, a
comic about being “uncrushable”, an interview with herself, a really
really long list of bad stuff , confessional stuff on cutting herself,
hating volletyball, and more. Harriet the Spy written by Judy Blume
comes to mind when I read this zine. Really rad, brings back some
memories of 9th grade for me. 8 1/2” x 11”, 28 pages.
JEAN IS DEAD #1
Anna
8326 Leather Market
Houston, TX 77064
This is an excellent first issue. There is a rant on "growing up" and
being pressured to join the adult world that I could really relate to
since I'm going to be 18 in 2 months, information on vaginal
diseases (labelled "g for gross"?), scary homophobia at co-writer
Stephanie's high school, the longest interview with FYP, excerpts
from a book (?) by a member of the Runaways recounting how she
joined the band, Lita Ford vs. Doro Pesch and what it has to do
with the media pitting women against each other and feminism,
reviews/listings of recommended zines and records, a short, short
rant on the way girls in hardcore and punk get treated as just a
girlfriend, and Degrassi High madness! No filler in here... I can't
wait for #2. 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", 40 pages.
JUNKIE INJUSTICE
Christine
PO Box 11843
Olympia, WA 98508-1843
(a stamp)
This is a really moving one pager about junk - in terms of drugs,
but also in terms of pollution, corporations, shitty food, t.v., unsafe
sex, etc. Christine weaves her own experiences in with theory.
Also includes a comic about junk and AIDS and scary pictures of a
boy shooting up in her parent’s bathroom. 8 1/2” x 11”, 2 pages.
KITTUMS #4
PO Box 410312
San Francisco, CA 94141
($1 or 4 stamps)
Kittums is about cats and punk. If you like either one, I’m sure you
will love this. Mostly we get updates on Mikel’s life and her kitties
Kittums and Jesus, but there is also scary mail, Roberta Gregory’s
piece about her cat, cat tattoos, stuff about how Kittums likes to
masterbate, cat sightings in Japan, an interview with Michael from
Broken Rekids, “I was Hello Kitty” by Martin Wong, kitty vocabulary,
and more! Ahh! It’s so cute! Really engaging and happy
throughout. 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, 36 pages.
