About 'Greenbelt' and 'Safe Space' Greenbelt is dubbed Europe's largest Christian Arts Festival. Around 15,000 people pack into the UK's Cheltenham Racecourse every August Bank Holiday weekend for a colourful mixture of the latest in all types of music (rock, house, trance, hip hop, pop), all types of theology, all types of art, with all types of people. You can't define Greenbelt. Greenbelt just is. To launch Greenbelt's Festival homepage in a new browser window, click here now. Safe Space - an attitude-free zone at Greenbelt Festival. Greenbelt has a policy that no group or individuals contributing at the Festival can proselytise (preach their views) to others in attendance. While this cannot always be prevented, the Festival is very good at fostering an atmosphere of tolerance, and questioning without judgement. Following in this spirit, Safe Space is an informal opportunity for festival-goers to meet, make contact, chat, make friends. People come to Safe Space for different reasons - we don't even know all the reasons! Some come along because it provides them space to think through their own journey concerning their sexuality and their faith. Others come because they are the friends or relatives of people who are non-heterosexual. Some come because they don't know what to think about the issue (and probably leave realising that there's no such thing as 'an issue' without 'life stories' attached). We love to meet people on their level - whether that's heavy theological debate or a bit of fun and friendship. We don't provide professional counselling (we refer people to Festival counsellors or services). But we do usually have a bookstall, and a wealth of information to hand about groups 'already out there' providing focussed help and support. You can make use of some of this information right now, if you need to, by clicking here To read about things we've done at previous festivals, and things we plan for the next festival, visit our Archive.
