My Home town of Hania:
Hania being the second largest town (about 50,000 inhabitants) and my HOME town.
Unquestionably it is the town that has preserved more of its old character
than any other on the island .Many buildings and even entire neighborhoods
from the Venetian and Turkish periods have been preserved in good condition.
The new part has been built according to a modern plan with wide streets,
parks and fine buildings.
The sights of Hania are concentrated mainly in the Old Town which is centered
around the prettyVenetian Harbour. The old Venetian lighthouse lies at its entrance,
opposite the historic Firka Fortress and the Naval Museum.
Also in the province of Hania is the Samaria Gorge, the most stupendous gorge in Europe,
The gorge has running water, ponds plane trees and is 18 km. long .
It is about a 6 hours walk through it, and finally ends at Ayia Roumeli.
