Hi and welcome to my corner of the Internet. My name is Gene Brake and I'm a new resident of Seattle, WA or actually in West Seattle. I just moved here in June 2002, after living in Dallas, Texas for just over 1 year and in San Antonio, Texas for 18 years. I grew up in a small town north of Houston, Texas, so this native Texan, has made the rounds of the greatest cities in the state. I was born in Houston and am proud to be Native Houstonian.
I moved to San Antonio in 1983 on a job transfer with Southwestern Bell Telephone and then relocated to Dallas in May 2001 for my new company WINfirst. The ripple effects of 9-11-2001 caused my company to close their Dallas office 10-19-2001 and all local employees were laid off. (The list of victims continued, I just never realized I would be on that list.) After looking for work diligently for the 6 months, I decided to move on to Seattle, WA. Luckily after being here just a few months, I landed a job at what I consider one of the best companies in the world, Starbucks Coffee. I work at the corporate headquarters, as a scheduling analyst for the corporate call center.
I am a Gay man that is secure in who I am and what I want out of life. It hasn't always been that way, but maturity has a way of changinging you for the better. I've been out since 1975, so I've seen our community change and grow alot through the years. I'm also at a point in my life where I refuse to be treated as a second class citizen, because I am gay. Read my lips, Mr. President! I'm a proud Democrat, and can't understand how anyone can be affiliated with the Republican party or as I like to think of them, the American Taliban. Some say I'm outspoken, I just consider myself a proud American Man, that just happens to be Gay.
In case you are wondering... yes, I am happliy partnered. Greg, my Mr. Right came into my life when I least expected him to. As is often the case, when you stop looking, love finds you. We've been together for three plus years now and each day is blessing with him by my side. I'm a very lucky man indeed.
Dixie Chicks in London- I won a contest to see the DCX kick off their tour in London, June 2006.
I'm a Grandpa- It had to happen eventually. But, don't even think about referring to me as Gramps.
