David Taffet was born in New York City, raised in Yonkers, just north of New York City and went to college at The State University of New York at Albany. His degree is in English.
He got to Dallas by accident. He fell into his first real job after college. "It was snowing; they were hiring and I figured I could look for something else when the weather got better." Before the weather got much better, he was offered a position in Atlanta, found that he enjoyed retail and a year later was transferred to Dallas. He's been here over 20 years now.
David makes a terrible employee and has gone into several of his own businesses including video, men's clothing, travel and now women's clothing.("But that has to has to go soon. It's five years and I'm bored!") He has written for the
Dallas Voice for twelve years ("the longest anyone would have me") and is really only happy when he is making trouble as he has as an officer of Dallas Gay and Lesbian Alliance or on the board of Lesbian Gay Rights Lobby of Texas. ("I'm proud that W. called us extremists the week he was elected governor.")David has been associated with Lambda Weekly for ten years. He began with a travel segment when Bill Travis and Alonzo Duralde hosted the show. When Steve Walters took over, he walked into the studio to introduce himself, sat down at a microphone, began bantering on the air for two hours and became co-hosted for eight years. When Steve left, David became the show's host.
David lives with his partner, Les and their spoiled Siamese cat, Zsa Zsa and Hadassah, a foxhound who showed up on their doorstep the week of the Democratic convention. He has been a board member of
The Resource Center of Dallas since 1992 and serves as president of Congregation Beth El Binah. He is also on the regional board of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations and has served as Councillor of his class at SUNY Albany since 1975.Lerone Landis was born in Ft. Worth, TX but spent most of his childhood in Houston. His family moved back to the DFW area in Hurst where he graduated from L. D. Bell High School. He went on to attend college on a scholarship at the University of Texas in Austin where he majored in Theater. After doing some community theater, commercials and the typical waiter by day, actor by night stint Lerone moved back to the DFW area in 1994. He worked for several different communications companies in management and then realized that his gift for gab would work best in radio. Lerone landed his first job in radio as an Operations Technician @ USA Radio Network in Dallas. After a few months he starting reporting for the sports updates for the network. Imagine that - a sports anchor queen!
Currently Lerone lives with his partner of 3 years Danny and their daughter, Dot (Dot is a cat, of course)! Lerone's favorite hobby is collecting Janet Jackson memorabilia. To simply call him a huge fan would be a major understatement.
Lerone joined Lambda Weekly in December of 1999. Of the experience, Lerone said, "After listening to the Lambda Weekly show for months and thinking of how cool it would be, to not only be a regular on a radio show but on a gay radio show where I could be myself, I was ELATED when David & Kathy invited me to join and help co-host the show. Being part of the show has been a blast and I just hope to help educate, inform and empower all people about the Gay & Lesbian community regardless of their sexual orientation, especially gay youth, because our youth is our future
Patti Fink is a native Texan, and has lived and worked in Dallas since 1989. Her family lived in West Texas for a time and, as an oil brat, Patti grew up in North Africa and Europe. After graduating from an international boarding school near Geneva, Switzerland, Patti returned to the US to attend Baylor University in Waco, Texas, earning a pre-med degree in biology.
"I didn't come out to myself until soon after college, and then began my real journey toward happiness."
Patti has been an avid activist for many years, most recently serving as current co-chair of the
National Coming Out Project Dallas-Ft. Worth and a member of the Dallas HRC Steering Committee. She joined the Lambda Weekly team as a co-host in May 2000 after several guest appearances on the show to discuss local activities to help organize the Millennium March On Washington."Co-hosting Lambda Weekly has been a great outlet to further my own passion for GLBT equality in our community here in North Texas, and I really enjoy working with David and Lerone in the studio and out in the community when we do remote broadcasts. Of course, carrying the baton for our female listeners as the only woman on the show with three guys definitely keeps me on my toes every week!"
Currently, Patti is (very) single and lives with her butch cat Molly in Lakewood. When she's not out working on community causes or enjoying time with friends and family, Patti works as a product analyst for a healthcare software company in Las Colinas.
"I was thrilled to be invited to serve as a co-host on the show, and have thoroughly enjoyed every show and the opportunity to meet so many interesting people - community leaders and movers & shakers on so many levels who keep our quest vibrant. I am continuously amazed and inspired by the power of individual energy, in our guests and in our listeners. Our community is incredibly diverse, and I hope that the show is able to bring that kind of energy and inspiration to our listeners' lives each week as well....along with good information and hopefully some fun!"
Webmaster and occasional guest host
Mike Hathaway is a native Texan, born and bred in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. Spending his weekdays working for the nation's largest independent mortgage lender, Mike also serves on the Board of Directors and is the online editor for a local
video production company.Having listened to the show on and off for several years, Mike came to Lambda Weekly seeking assistance on producing a local cable-access gay and lesbian news/feature program - one that unfortunately lost its legs when his "real" job took center stage with a vengeance. In October of 1998, Kathy Tipps took a night off. Then-producer Steve Walters-Dearmond sent an email to Mike asking, "Hey! You want to become a star?" Mike (not knowing what he was getting himself into) immediately said yes and ended up with something "smurfy" to add to his voice-over resume'.
"Being able to listen to Kathy and David gave me a whole new insight into the local gay community," says Mike. "Their combined experiences and political opinions were a real education, and it's continuing today with the new crew! Besides that, Lambda Weekly is a LOT of fun to do! This show has given me the opportunity to get more involved with the community - something I've been trying to accomplish for quite some time. We spread a lot of news and information around all of North Texas (and now the world!), but I think the more important thing is we also let the masses know we're here, especially the under 21 set who really need to know they're not alone. " An extension of his interest in help the next generation is writing for a GLBT Youth eZine called
"Ten Percent Bent".After a couple of bad judgment calls in men over the last decade, Mike is currently very single and spends his evenings with his cats, designing web sites including this one,
Leadership Lambda, and his own, The Realm of the Flamingo King
