Creative Writing 2001 | |||||||||||||||||
Introduction One embarks on a journey by checking the weather and the time, beginning to form expectations by peering out the window. One begins to play a game by observing one's opponents and evaluating their abilities. One starts a task by examining opportunities and obtacles. One commences most things by looking outside. One begins to write, however, by looking within. That act is to find a murky mirror, an endless field, a darkened room, or a sunset within the forum of the mind. Any number of strange or stereotypical images and ideas may greet a writer when he or she gazes inward for inspiration. It is the writer's imperative to choose for outward expression the interesting, possibly unformed ideas that capture his or her attention, and therefore hopefully the audience's as well. This is what I have attempted to do in the creation fo this website, for your perusal. I have sorted through the many pieces I have written in as well as out of Creative Writing classes, and have formed four categories under a common theme. These sections are named Burning, Abandoment, Runaway, and Glitters, and can be accessed by the four linked pictures to the right of this text. The first group of pieces I selected fell under the categorisation of Burning. I found that within these pieces I had expressed intense emotions, such as desire, love, and fear, that could be described as fiery, burning amongst other fire-related imagery. Included in this section is the Fire and Water Story Arc, otherwise known as the Kenji&Max stories (which are usually accessed through my main page by the stories link,) and several love poems of an interesting variety. In the second section, Abandonment, the pieces that I chose are regarding the emotional consequences of neglect, pain and mental disturbances. In this section the pieces deal with the issues of death, suicide and self-mutilation, all of which are themes that can be reflected throughout my entire written history of poetry, indexed on my main page through the poetry link. Found in this section is the piece I wrote with the inspiration heavy on my mind of the unfortunate murder of the schoolgirl by her classmate within the news last year. The third section is entitled Runaway, and deals with avoidance of emotions, events or issues. The themes presented are specific forms of denial or avoidance, including a new, recent story called 'Silence' that was just added to the stories page of my main site. This story is mostly an idealised vision of a more comunicative possibility in my personal life, however written while the possibility still existed, which it no longer does due to recent events which I am very pleased about. The final category was difficult to name and difficult to select for, as it represents the happier side of myself, and thus is named 'Glitters' for the small slivers of hope that still rest within even the darkest human mind. Most of the pieces in this section are ones of which many people doubt my authorship due to their pleasant subjects. The newest poems in the Glitters page are several haikus that were written in the aftermath of personal developments, and have not yet been seen by anyone. These are the pages of which I have laid waste to so much time upon in an incredibly painful HTML editor. I hope that you may enjoy. |
