Frank Max Grossmann
1881 - September 5, 1940
"Do all the good you can to all the people you can,
in every way you can
as long as ever you can."
~ Written by Frank Max Grossmann to his grandson, Frank Grossmann Abt 1939.
Frank Max Grossmann, a carpenter by trade, was the son of Frank and Louisa Reis Grossmann. The Grossmann family worked on or built many homes in New Lots or the "New Brooklyn" area of Kings
County in the early part of the last century. By 1930 Frank Max Grossmann was employed by the city as a custodian.
Frank M. built the house he lived in at 37 Hemlock Street. It was a German neighborhood. He had three brothers, Charles H. ("Uncle Hen"), Bernard, and George. Uncle Hen was a plumber and stored his equipment and supplies in the garage at 57 Hemlock Street, a house he owned and rented out to Johnny Folger. Bernie worked for the Farmingdale School District later in life as a custodian. Frank M. married Mary Elizabeth "Mame" Lyons-Farr, the adopted daughter of Lafayette and Matilda (Zeisser) Farr. They had four children together: Frank Henry, Eugene J., Mary Elizabeth "Marie" , and Leonard W. "Warren". Frank Henry later became involved in local politics.
