The aim of this research is to explore the relationship between gender conformity and self-esteem in gay men. It also aims to investigate the relationship between childhood gender conformity and gender-related adult personality traits. I hope that it will provide a better understanding of the factors that contribute to self-esteem among homosexual men.
I am seeking gay men who are at least eighteen years old, who are willing to complete a brief questionnaire that is on the next page of this website. In order to take part in this research project you need to identify yourself as gay/homosexual. Completing the questionnaire should take no more than ten minutes and can be done any time at your convenience. When you get to the bottom of the questionnaire, please hit the SUBMIT button which will send the results of your filled in questionnaire.
It is possible that completing the questionnaire may raise some personal issues of concern to you. If you would like to talk about these issues with a counsellor, a list of free gay or gay-friendly counselling and support services can be found my clicking here.
No findings that could identify any individual participant will be published. The anonymity of your participation is assured by our procedures, in which the questionnaires are anonymous and only the combined results of all participants will be published. Only my supervisor and I will have access to this data, which will be stored for five years as prescribed by the university regulations.
You do not have to complete the questionnaire. Although it is preferable, you do not need to answer every question. If you are having trouble understanding any of the questions, you are welcome to ring me on at work on (03) 9601 3282 and I will try to help you. Alternatively it might be more convenient to contact me by email at researchproject@hotmail.com .
