This outstanding movie takes a tried and tested cinematic
formula (film noirish plans, scams and betrayal) and adds a decidedly 90s
sensibility to it, not to mention a major lesbian plot angle, without losing any
of the thrill, intrigue or snappy dialogue which characterised its 1940s
counterparts.
Gina Gishon and Jennifer Tilly star as neighbours who become
lovers first, then partners in crime. The question for the rest of the film
becomes who will betray whom. Th3e intelligent script avoids every cliché it
approaches and constantly refreshes the familiar story line.
Bound is also a landmark Hollywood film for its depiction
of the two gutsy lesbian heroines: the little girl sex kitten (with the nasty
claws) and the coolly butch dyke.
Their initial scenes together pulsate with sexual tension as
the two beautiful women are irrevocably drawn to each other. This film is
recommended for both male and female gay viewers.
