While not overtly gay, the director of this kinky thriller uses
Tarantino-style violence and a bevy of pretty boys to create an improbable tale
dripping with homoerotic undertones. Leon (Stephen Baldwin) and Florence (Mickey
Rourke) are two gun-toting crooks looking to hit a bank in a southern town. They
are portrayed as lovers - Baldwin is forever looking longingly into tough guy
Rourke's steely eyes and Rourke comforts and controls his partner by cooing
several time "You know I love you" and even holding Baldwin's hand.
Their scheme is foiled when three freshly-scrubbed teens, out to make their own
robbery, get in the way. They boys are soon held hostage by the hoods. This is
where the film takes a decidedly S&M twist, as knives and guns are
brandished (often towards the captives' mouths - duh, symbolism!), pants
are dropped and a bondage fantasy right out of a violent porn novel is acted
out. Baldwin, alternately menacing and whimpering, is seen as the psychotic fag,
thrown into a killing frenzy when he thinks his beloved 'daddy' has
double-crossed him. A good time is guaranteed for those with a homo-vivid
imagination and a taste for rough stuff.
