Hector Babenco’s spellbinding meditation on political
idealism and self-delusion stars Academy Award winner William Hurt and Raul
Julia, who portray two dramatically opposite inmates thrown together in a
dungeon-like cell somewhere in South America. Julia, a cold political realist
and activist, is forced to endure the fantasies of Hurt, a hopelessly romantic
and politically naïve homosexual. An exotic Sonia Braga plays both Julia’s
one-time lover and Hurt’s imaginary heroine.
