Charlotte Coleman (4 Weddings and a Funeral) stars as Jess, the adopted daughter of an over enthusiastic Evangelist, played by Geraldine McEwan in this 2 hour 45 minute mini series.

With an upbringing spent learning the bible, praying for "heathens in hot countries", and listening to her mother's favourite radio show, "The Jim Reeves Devotional Selection", she unnerves both classmates and teachers when she begins school. One girl is totally distraught when Jess warns her that she'll not be able to use a proper toilet in hell.

When she grows up, Jess meets Melanie, and what begins as a simple friendship, soon turns to passion. On discovering the truth about their relationship, her horrified mother and local Pastor believe these "unnatural lusts" to be the work of the devil, and decide extreme measures are necessary if she is to be saved.

This highly acclaimed BBC production was adapted by Jeanette Winterson from her own best-selling novel. It won three BAFTA awards, including Best Serial and Best Actress.
