WE THINK THE WORLD OF YOU
This is the film version of JR
Ackerley's best-selling semi-autobiographical 1960 novel about a love triangle
between two men and a dog. Set in the rubble of post World War II East End,
London, Alan Bates stars as the older, set-in-his-ways, part-time lover of Gary
Oldman, a roguish bisexual charmer who divides his affections between his wife
Megan (Frances Barber) and his male lover.
The situation is upset when
Oldman is sent to prison for six months. The care and feeding of his beloved
dog, Evie, a charmer in her own right, is left to his mother. But Bates,
desperate for a replacement love, begins to care for her and becomes obsessed
with the canine - able to see in her qualities that his lover could never
possess. A decidedly offbeat and witty comedy of misplaced love.
