Twisted

Filmmaking in Cleveland’s growing independent scene continues to flourish with the feature film “Twisted,” scheduled for principal photography by September 1999.  Directed and produced by MDI --Media Design Imaging, The Motion Picture Studio—open auditions for “Twisted,” will be held July 12, 1999 at MDI’s studio.

Directed, produced, and written by MDI, “Twisted” is a story about Jin, (a Chinese word meaning strength), a young Asian boy who struggles with inner conflicts of tradition, values, social and political ties, and the temptations of a maturing young man in his teens.  In addition to battling the typical teen-age issues, Jin winds through the intricate connection between the underworld role he plays for his government, the search for his father’s love, and a newfound relationship with Fernando, an ambassador’s son.

Throughout his journey Jin assembles a passionate yet fierce approach to relationships, survival, and acceptance, but not without some Twists.  The screenplay, by MDI Design Consultant Johnny Wu, is written in English, Chinese, and Spanish combined with selected image compositions and an original score by Greg Petusky, MDI Production Consultant.

James Auyeung stars in Twisted as Jin Liu.  Jin is an 18 year old son of a strict Chinese diplomat father, a shy and retiring mother, and a coddled sister. You will see Jin (which means strength in Chinese) demonstrate his superb martial art skills throughout Twisted and witness his growing struggle between family obligations, patriotic duty, and true love.

James was "discovered" by MDI while walking down the street at Cleveland State University. While Johnny Wu was searching for a spot to park, Greg Petusky was running through the street to catch up with James.  Despite (or perhaps because of) limited acting experiences, James brings emotion and depth to his portrayal of Jin.

Jose Garcia portrays Daniel Castillo, the 22 year old amateur boxer and son of a Central American dignitary.  Daniel is kind and warm hearted.  He has taken on almost a parental role with his younger brother Fernando, due to his mother's social obligations. Daniel provides the love and guidance that Fernando lacks.  Throughout Twisted, Daniel will capture you with his sensitivity and his understanding of the world Fernando and Jin are experiencing.

Jose Garcia has performed in many independent films produced in Cleveland. He brings a depth and earthiness to the role of Daniel that will dominate the screen.

Sean Farris plays Fernando Castillo, the 17 year old. hyperactive brother of Daniel and the son of Maria Castillo. Fernando loves sports and is surrounded by a caring, if distant, family representing a Central American country that is struggling with limited financial resources. Fernando enjoys sports and hanging out at the local restaurant, but his life is changed forever after Jin enters it.

Sean Faris is an up and coming actor/model that has a promising future ahead of him.  At the Model & Talent event held recently in NYC, Sean was one of the few who received most attention and has received over 46 calls from this appearance alone. His youthful energy, freedom, and exuberance brightens the screen.
