When Love Comes is another story about love and discovery. Rena Owens (who was great in the very sad film Once Were Warriors) is Katie Keen, a once-legendary pop idol for New Zealand but now with her career at a standstill. She's fled her touring boyfriend Eddie (Simon Westaway) and returned to New Zealand to catch up with her longtime gay friend Stephen (Simon Prast). Stephen's fallen in love with a songwriter, Mark (Dean O'Gorman), but the feeling's not reciprocal. Mark hangs out with his lesbian friends, Fig (Nancy Brunning) and Sally (Sophia Hawthorne). Sally, Fig, and Mark seem a whole generation away from that of Katie, Stephen, and Eddie. Each of these characters are complex and it's fun to watch their discoveries.
