(2000, Spain)
Director: Gay, Cesc
Starring: Fernando Ramallo ; Jordi Vilches ; Marieta Orozco
Looking for another Beautiful Thing? Well, search no further. This delightful look at gangly teen boys leaving no stone unturned for sex and love will more than sate your hunger.
Originally called Krámpack, a made-up word for mutual masturbation, this Spanish offering chronicles the adventures and misadventures of two 17-year-olds over one summer.
Dani (Fernando Ramallo) is left alone in his folks' beach house while they scout the pyramids in Egypt. His school pal Nico (Jordi Vilches) was always scheduled to show up to keep him company, but neither boy expected that the two would be left totally unsupervised.
Besides fishing, biking, sunning and roughhousing, the two talk about sex a lot and of course get instantly aroused. This leads to masturbating together, which leads to masturbating each other, and even to Dani giving a little head.
But then two local girls show up. Nico immediately sees the chance to lose his virginity. Dani at first goes along, but then realizes he's inordinately jealous. He doesn't want to share Nico with anyone. In fact, he's coming to terms with a budding realization that he loves Nico, loves him so much he wants Nico to lose his virginity with him.
A shocked Nico rapidly realizes that there's a difference between innocent sex play and homosexuality. Is he ready to make the jump? And if he isn't, what will happen to the boys' friendship?
Superb performances and a light, comic directorial touch make this a highly enjoyable, extremely sensual coming of age film. It will be hard for anyone who was ever a gawky, yearning teen not to relate to the amiable goings-on.
