Our 501[c][3] Status

We filed our 501[c]3 application with the IRS July 16th, 2001 and was approved as an official 501[c]3 nonprofit corporation August 28, 2001.

Our Goals

1.) To insure accessibility to health care, including, but not limited to mental health care, surgical intervention and medication.

2.) To educate the public concerning gender related issues.

3.) To provide shelter to transgenders who would otherwise be homeless.

4.) To provide peer support to those who are dealing with gender related issues.

The History of CATS

Community Awareness for Transgender Support (CATS) began to hold regularly scheduled support group meetings a little over a year and a half ago and officially incorporated as a Texas non-profit in February of 2001 and was later approved as an official 501[c]3 nonprofit corporation

CATS offers a variety of programs which assist transgenders who are in need of emergency housing, peer support, clothing, medication, medical attention, name and gender marker changes/corrections, counseling, electrolysis and education continuously since October 1999.
