gangster - The Krays were identical twins
who created a two-man-mafia known as "The
Firm," that controlled the protection rackets in
London during the 1960s. Their early career in boxing was
interrupted by a call from the military. Most of their
time in the national service was spent behind bars in
military prisons. A pattern was set, and by 1956 they
were running the largest criminal operation in London's
East End. It was Ronnie who supplied the violent
enforcement necessary for "The Firm," with
younger — by 45 minutes — brother Reggie taking
care of financial affairs for the outfit. Ronnie Kray was gay, preferring boys because they had "little angel faces, less evil-minded than girls." The Kray Twins were known for their flamboyant style, wearing flashy, expensive clothing and hob-nobbing with celebrities in chic London nightclubs. Ronnie killed gangster George Cornell after Cornell called him a "fat poof." He was convicted for this and, with Reggie, for another murder in 1969 and sent to Broadmoor prison, where Ronnie died of heart disease in 1995. The brothers' story formed the basis for the hit movie "The Krays" in 1993. |

German industrialist - Friedrich A. Krupp
was the heir to his German father's munitions empire.
When his old man passed on, Krupp initiated some
large-scale "fireworks" of his own. He built an
elaborate pleasure palace on the island of Capri, handed
out gold, bullet-shaped keys to local boys, and hired
violinists to provide musical accompaniment for his
extravagant sex parties. After a series of newspaper
articles describing "homosexual orgies," Krupp
sued for libel. Before the case went to trial, Krupp was
convinced that he would be destroyed much like Oscar
WILDE had been just a few years earlier. Krupp committed
suicide. Luchino Visconti's movie The Damned is inspired to the Krupps's saga. |
