GLAMARAMA!
After a successful premiere season at BATS Theatre in December 2004, Wellington drag performer Pollyfilla is excited to be bring her dazzling new stage production – “GLAMARAMA” to Auckland for the first time, as part of the 2005 HERO festival.
“GLAMARAMA is an extravaganza of Music and Movement; Comedy, Cabaret, Colour and CAMP! Audience members can expect Smatterings of Sequins, Sparkles, Synthetic hair, Silly Songs, Shirley Bassey, Six inch heels, Smutty jokes and Seat Wetting” says Pollyfilla of her new production. “GLAMARAMA was inspired by Las Vegas Entertainment of the 1950s and 60s – Vaudeville, Cabaret, Burlesque, Tacky Lounge Acts and Glamorous Floor Shows”
Described as Joan Crawford on Acid Meets Jim Carrey in Drag - Pollyfilla plays a washed up boozed up Las Vegas Lounge singer, teetering on the brink of a nervous breakdown, and is joined onstage by three glamorous showgirls - The Dazzling Fillettes: Cyndi, Gem and Barby! (Aka Rochelle Rose, Karen Lau and Katty Lau)
Prior to GLAMARAMA, Rochelle Rose was Choreograher for the Tap Dance Routine in Peter Jacksons KING KONG, and was Naomi Watts Tap Tutor for the film!
The production features over 40 fabulous costumes – each one created especially for the show by award winning designer Colin McLean.
“Designing a show like this gives me a chance to inject some glamour back into theatre, and use all those fantastic fabrics like sequins and foil that reflect light, or fringe and feathers which add movement. Apart from Ballet, Opera and Period Pieces, most costumiers are starved for creative outlets like this type of show!”
