WIGSTOCK is most possibly the BIGGEST (in more ways than one) Wig fest in the world! Wigstock happens in New York City, New York, USA every year on Labour weekend, and has just celebrated its 15th anniversary!!! Wigstock was incepted by the mother of all New York city draggoons, the fabulous Miss "Lady" Bunny, who also still runs the event, along with partner in crime Scott Lifshutz. The event charges an entry fee, but 50% of all takings go to the Gay Mens Health Crisis in New York. Wigstock has reached legendary status since it's humble beginnings in Tompkins Square Park. The festival has been the subject of a full-length documentary, "Wigstock: The Movie"produced by Samuel Goldwyn and released in 1995. Wigstock has been profiled on CNN, BBC Television and MTV News, and in such print journals as Vanity Fair, Newsweek and even Screw Magazine. The event has featured almost every queen in New York City and some of the music industry's hippest stars including RuPaul, Deborah Harry, Deelite, the B-52's and Crystal Waters. |
