HIV/AIDS Treatment Directory now online
NEW YORK, Nov 19, 1999 (Reuters Health) -- The HIV/AIDS
Treatment
Directory, which contains current information on approved
and experimental treatments for HIV infection and related
conditions, is now available online, officials announced at
a press conference on Friday. Physicians and patients will
now be able to search a database of treatment options,
including trials of experimental drugs. The directory also
contains a wide range of related information, such as a
guide to understanding blood values and a directory of
drug-assistance programs. ``This directory will be valuable
to patients considering their first treatment regimen and
to those patients for whom current therapies are not
working,´´ commented Dr. Kenneth Mayer, a member of the
board of directors of the American Foundation for AIDS
Research (amfAR), the directory sponsor.
``Most important, the directory will allow healthcare
providers and patients in the US and around the world
access to reliable, up-to-date HIV/AIDS treatment
information,´´ added Mayer, who also directs the Brown
University AIDS Program. The directory can be accessed
anonymously at
http://www.amfar.org/td
According to amfAR officials, it will be updated
continuously. (If that link is slow to load remove the /td
and click on the treatment directory link at amfar's
homepage.) Thanx to Mike for this link!!!
RE: WOMEN'S HEALTH ISSUES
(women of any/all sexual
orientations):
As a whole, this group has been greatly over-looked by the
medical community. This makes it especially important that
women be educated/informed about health issues pertaining
to themselves and be aggressive in obtaining proper health
care. Sexual minority women have been ignored even moreso.
Please check out the links above pertaining to women's
health issues. I strongly encourage all queers to include
links/info regarding lesbian health issues on their web
pages and to join the Lesbian Health Web Ring!
