Ya' at' 'eeh (Hello)
I am a full blooded Navajo living the the Notherwestern part of New Mexico. I think that this is a very beautiful part country to live in. Sometimes I like to just get in my ride and take a little day trip. Sometimes I like to go to the mountains, drive and look at the red rock that are everywhere, go to Canyon De Chelly, Monument Valley or even Page. I especially like it when it rains because the colors are more vivided. The like to go to the mounatins when it snow and watch the snow fall and listen to the wind blowing between the trees. For some reason, I have always love the snow.
I was born and raised off the reservation, in the southwestern part of New Mexico. I was born in Silver City and raised in a little mining town of Santa Rita until 5 or so. Then when the mine started coming in closer to where we lived, we moved to Bayard. I lived there for about 25 years, attend school, making friends and find some trouble to get into. LOL. Sometime, I miss Bayard and try to return as much as possible. The place has changed so much that I just can't believe it. I have some family still there, which makes it easy for me to return. Living in Bayard is like living here. There are mountains near by so I can just jump in my ride and take a day trip. Or I could hop on to my brothers bike and bike along the road.
When we moved there my parents used to say that I really wanted to go to school. The reason being, I used to take off down to the school yard and play with the other kids. Then there would be a phone call, asking my parents to come and pick up there son down at the school. To this day my parents still tell that story. I still get all embarresed.
I attended Bayard Elementary (Braves) then it was off to Snell Jr. High School (Eagles) and the finally the big league Cobre High School (Class of '85). Go Indians!! School colors are RED, BLACK and WHITE.
Finally after graduating from high school, I attended Western New Mexcio University, Go Mustangs!! in the near by town of Silver City. I received a BS in Computer Science and a minor in Math (Class of '90). School colors are PURPLE AND GOLD. After college, I move back to the reservation and lived with my parents. I wanted to find a job near my parents, so I could help them out in any way possible. My first job was at Navajo Arts and Crafts Enterprise as a part time. I guess I did a good job because I was soon offered a full time position. I was there for about five years and really enjoyed working there. I still go back once in awhile to visit my friends. Then I moved to the big league, the Navajo Nation Governement. Spy, LOL, just kidding. I started off with the Office of Mangement and Budget (OMB). Don't ask about the budget, it wasn't me, I swear. LOL. I made some good friends and still keep in touch with them. The work then was great but I wanted something more challenging, so I applied for my current position. Now,I am with Staff Development and Training Program as an Instructor. I enjoy it very much and gives the oppurtunity to help my people. I also helps keep my from getting in trouble, just kidding. It is alot of work and I do get tired but I enjoy it very much. My co-workers are a great bunch of people. |
