Ronnie & I recently celebrated our first wedding anniversary (may there be many more!). She had taken leave from her job and I also had some time off and we wanted to do something unique to mark the occasion. In case you can't tell from photos elsewhere on my site, she's quite a lot shorter than I am and a rather different shape, so when she suggested I try on her wedding dress, I didn't for one moment think it would work! In fact, I was a little reluctant at first, but as she pulled me into her bridal basque and helped arrange my hair and put on my make up, I began to relax. I was still not convinced, but enjoyed the pampering! After getting me into the hooped petticoat and the white silk wedding shoes we found at Clothesline, a second hand clothing warehouse in Dorset (no small achievement when you consider my rather un - ladylike shoe size), the time came to slip me into the dress. I held my breath as she closed the zipper, expecting it to get stuck at any moment. To my surprise, it did up easily! I was sure, though, it would be far too short, but it cleared the ground by just a few inches. With the finishing touches of veil and tiara in place, I stopped to look in the mirror. What happened next filled Ronnie with surprise - I fell silent, was lost for words! Could this be me? I could scarcely believe it; my lovely wife had worked a miracle!

However, the magic wasn't over yet..... Karen was coming to visit us and although she was aware I was planning to dress, and was planning to do so herself, she hadn't bargained on Ronnie's wand - waving. When she came through the door, the effect on her was almost as profound as it had been on me! She looked at me, almost lost for words. Then, Ronnie mentioned something about every bride needing a bridesmaid and dragged Karen upstairs to rifle through our costume store. She knew Karen's clothes size and that she had this beautiful lilac satin dress that would suit perfectly. When they came back down, the transformation was complete. Now all we needed was a photographer to capture the occasion.

Lucky for us, Helen was only too happy to oblige. After all, there was no way she was going to miss a 'BLOODY SPEECHLESS KERRI', as she put it. I'm not known for keeping quiet, and I don't think she'd have believed it if she hadn't seen it for herself! She's also a rather good photographer.

It was wonderful to feel so special, and I was thrilled to have a record of the evening. I could hardly believe how lovely the pictures were, and still can hardly believe believe that this is me! Ronnie says that next time I try it for size, she'll wear top hat and tails - watch this space for the photographs. If you ever get the opportunity to dress this way, try it! When you look in the mirror for that first time, I hope you feel as amazed as I did. When I look back on these pictures, and the video Ronnie shot, I still can't quite believe what I'm seeing (I spend the first part of the tape wandering around in a daze, giggling). Aren't I a lucky girl?
