I hang my mangy dog head down
and tuck my tail snugly 'tween my spindly legs
to honestly admit that
I've experimented with drugs ,
and yes , I did inhale !
Teetotalers may scoff , but drug usage ,
always was and always will be
a integral part of the human experience ,
just the facts , ma'am !
And this includes the world's favorite candy
and a weak man's best friend , alcohol .
Since recorded time people have been on the sly
and binged on the mind-altering substance
of their choice , legal or not .
Whether it be pre-whitey American Indians
trippin' out on mushrooms
during a night out with the boys ,
( o yeah , in the name of religion )
or Christ's first followers
eshewing all that was Classical Roman ,
except the liberal use of wine ,
( also in the name of religion , hhmmmm.... )
and i don't think it was to lower one's
cholesterol .
Some of the most peaceful tribes on earth
have continued their societies
glued together by an occasional chew on some
exotic acidic or alkaloid
tropical root , leaf , or fruit .
Even our proud grandparents were hooked
on Coca-Cola™ , back in the day when every good tonic
packed a cocaine punch !
So don't even try to shake your prohibition finger
in anyone's face ; shut up and go home and
take three valium for your coffee headache !
Whether it's nicotine , caffeine , or murine ,
there's a little drug demon for all of us .
