womb began in the summer of 1996, a solo project on the part of greg ferrari, based in london, uk. between 1996 and 1998, a number of self-financed demo cassettes were produced: babies for sale!, broken english, under mind and after birth. the summer of 1998 saw the first womb live performance - a solo set at the water rats venue in london. after this gig, greg was approached by leisure hive/naevus bassist joanne owen, and the two have since joined forces for numerous gigs at home and abroad during the last three years. during the autumn and winter of 1998, the first womb cd was recorded. the album, titled unclean, demonstrated a progression in the womb sound and was warmly received. 1999-2000 saw womb consolidate themselves as one of london's most easily recognisable goth/alternative live acts. during this period recordings were being made for the second full-length womb album, titled spiteful extractions. the cd was finally released in march 2001, and shows a further progression in production and song writing ability. combining the energy of the early demo tapes whilst retaining the atmosphere of unclean, spiteful extractions looks certain to play an important role in the future of womb. promotional live performances to coincide with the release of spiteful extractions, plus recording and distribution deals for future womb releases are being actively pursued.

"womb have definitely turned more punk/new wave. going right back to their roots, the essex band have taken some definite tips here from the likes of the birthday party and early christian death...over the last year or so, there has definitely been a lot of small-press interest in some of the london scene's more indie-based rock bands, and womb are certainly at the forefront

of this. spiteful...should boost their coverage considerably" (www.angelfire.com/zine/meltdown)
