Description of our project:
To provide computer literacy to slum dweller kids completing 10 years of Schooling attaining at the level
of Secondary School Certificate who could never be able to afford to computer education due to their low income level.
Brief project summary:
1992 a project was taken with the help of Radda
Barnen, a Swedish NGO who was providing slum dweller kids completing minimum 10 years of Schooling and ICMS was providing introductional computer literacy programme, accepting small donation from local
entrepreneurs and elite. With assistance from the
Global Bangemann Challenge, the project would like to
take the challenge again to educate those kids towards
a minimum computer literacy of six months providing
understanding of MicroSoft Office in Windows platform, who could barely live to their hand to mouth.
Up until now this project is being appreciated by all
sections of people. Providing computer literacy has
certainly braught hope for living towards a standard
form and aspirations of modern life to those kids who
could never be able to educate in this field of education. Also, these kids are being prepared to a
more advanced computer courses leading to diploma in
computer applications. If this project sustains for long,
it would bring subsistance upgradation in IT based
knowledge group in the community.
Objectives and innovation:
Primary aim is to provide computer literacy to low
income group of students from Sub-Urban town at
Mirpur located 20 Km away from Dhaka city centre
covering a population base of more than 3 millions.
Nearby area of Mirpur has large number of slum
dwellers deprived of proper education. The project is to prepare the target group for proper computer education base thus bridging the gap as first phase of a three phase project. A target group of 30 students in a bi-weekly class for six months would cover 720 students in 5 years lifetime of the project from October 2000 to September 2005. The latent idea is to prepare these kids towards the second phase of the project where they could assist in writing programmes through learning programming techniques.
Preparing the community based peoples with pragmatic
hierarchy of IT based education platform at each level
would bring ultimate upgradation of a knowledge based
literate group and it would bring bright lesson to other
communities to emcourage them in other form of
education. |
