Mark 1:1,2

Mark 1:1,2,3

The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in the Prophets: "Behold, I send My messenger before Your face. Who will prepare your way before You. The voice of one crying in the wilderness: "Prepare the way of the LORD, Make His paths straight.

Mark opens with the very beginning of Jesus' ministry by showing us His fore-runner, John the Baptist, preaching in the Jordan wilderness, telling the people to get ready: "The Messiah's comming is very near at hand!"

The people had been without a prophet for some 400 years until John came. Now the magic of John's presence and his word from God about the nearness of the appearance of the Messiah drew them like a magnet. His message was: "Repent of sin...be baptized." Then he said Christ was so great that he (John) wasn't worthy to untie His shoelaces.
