- Groom Plays Straight
- Man in Heche Wedding
- Actress in rare traditional role
- By MAKI BECKER
- Daily News Staff Writer
- Anne Heche is an old-fashioned girl, after all.
- The 32-year-old actress — who grabbed headlines as comedian Ellen DeGeneres'
lover and was later hospitalized after knocking on a stranger's door and
babbling about outer space — got married Saturday.
Wedding of Anne Heche and Coleman Laffoon was low-key, in contrast to her
high-profile linkup with...
...Ellen DeGeneres and Heche's outer-spacey days in between the two
relationships.
Heche wed cameraman Coleman Laffoon during an intimate ceremony at the
couple's Hollywood Hills home, which was festooned with pink and orange
flowers.
A minister presided over the vows as the groom's siblings and Heche's pals
made testimonials.
"I'm so happy to be your husband!" Laffoon gushed to Heche, decked out in a
stunning ecru gown with matching shoes.
"Hey," said Heche, "I could get used to this traditional stuff," sending the
crowd into fits of laughter.
The low-key ceremony was in contrast to the publicity Heche generated as the
girlfriend of DeGeneres, whose coming out of the closet briefly notched big
ratings for her ABC sitcom "Ellen."
The couple broke up in August 2000, after 3 1/2 years together. Shortly after
the split, Heche knocked on the door of a Fresno, Calif., farmworker and
babbled about outer space. She was hospitalized and later admitted she was on
Ecstasy at the time of the incident.
Heche, known for her roles in such films as "Wag the Dog" and "Donnie
Brasco," met Laffoon during the filming of a documentary on a DeGeneres
concert tour. Heche was the director and Laffoon was a cameraman.
Before her involvement with DeGeneres, Heche had relationships with men,
among them Steve Martin.
Guests at Saturday's wedding included Heche's friends from her stint on the
hit Fox-TV show "Ally McBeal," Lucy Liu and Peter MacNicol, as well as
DreamWorks production chief Mike DeLuca. Also on hand was the Laffoon family,
known for building Kentucky's Keeneland racetrack and sending family members
to Congress for generations.
It was the start of a big week for Heche, whose memoir "Call Me Crazy," hits
bookshelves Wednesday.
The book, which Heche discusses in an interview with Barbara Walters airing
Wednesday, details her harrowing childhood. She writes that she was forced to
support her family from age 13 and was sexually assaulted by her father, who
died of AIDS in 1983.
Friends at Saturday's ceremony said they were hoping her marriage will give
Heche the happiness she deserves.

- Walters crazy about new Anne Heche bio
-
- http://www.nypost.com/gossip/cindy.htm
CINDY ADAMS
August 29, 2001 --
BARBARA WALTERS hits the ground running next Wednesday. First show on
the, pardon the phrase, virgin outing in the new time slot where
"20/20" will now air instead of its forever always Fridays, where it
forever always won its time period.
It's Anne Heche's interview on her soon-due bio. Knowing this has the
regulation my-parents-abused-me-as-a-child junk, I asked why this
guest? Who'll rush to the TV to watch Anne Heche? What's so great about
Heche's memoir, other than her 10-minute Ellen DeGeneres affair?
"This is one of the most appalling, terrifying, fantastic stories
you'll ever read," said Barbara.
"Ellen DeGeneres is only a tiny portion of it. The title, 'Call Me
Crazy' sounds like a funny, daffy tale, right? Wrong. Anne truly
believes that she was two people. That she's been insane all her life.
That she only came together exactly one year ago this month, when she
was found wandering in Fresno, out of her head, supposedly babbling
about how she has to board a space ship."
So she got healthy just in time to get a book advance, just in time to
get a TV show, just in time to do this sit-down with you, just in time
to dump Ellen and find a guy to marry?
Barbara ignored me, like I'm not too bright. "She was insane, and
nobody knew it. How she found her sanity is what she tells on the show.
She's now engaged, getting married, grateful to be alive, and she wrote
this book all herself. And says things in it about her life and family
and what she survived that are truly horrible."
You believe her?
"Absolutely."
You like her?
"Absolutely. I first met her with Ellen and sort of liked her. And when
I got this manuscript, I thought it would be another usual tell-all,
telling mostly about Ellen. No!"
She also tells about her once-upon-a-love affair with Steve Martin?"
"Listen, just tune in Sept. 5."
ABC has committed big money, big ads and a big push to this show. The
interview will run 20 minutes. Barbara's spending her Labor Day weekend
cutting, trimming and manicuring it. And priming for promo shots on
"Live with Regis & Kelly," "Larry King Live," "Good Morning America."

- Anne to get her own TV show!
- Heche will star in WBTV series
- LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) --- Anne Heche will make her debut as the star of her own television series for Warner Bros. Television.
Sources said Heche is finalizing a one-year talent deal with the studio to topline a WBTV series project targeted for fall 2002. The pact is valued in the $1 million range.
Heche wants to do a comedy, but it hasn't been determined yet whether she will do a half-hour or a one-hour show, sources said.
Heche conceived the idea of doing a television series following her experience on David E. Kelley's dramedy for Fox "Ally McBeal (news - Y! TV)," in which she did a multi-episode guest arc last season.
After a long round of meetings with studios and networks executives, Heche last week narrowed her choice of a TV home to WBTV, Studios USA and 20th Century Fox TV (HR 7/3).
Heche began her screen career with a role on the NBC daytime drama "Another World."
Her TV credits also include HBO's "If These Walls Could Walk," in which she co-starred, and "If These Walls Could Talk 2," in which she wrote and directed a segment starring Sharon Stone and Ellen DeGeneres.
On the feature side, Heche's credits include "Wag the Dog," "Six Days Seven Nights," "Psycho" and "Donnie Brasco." She will next be seen in "Prozac Nation."
Heche, who is repped by WMA and manager Lauren Lloyd, is working on New Line Cinema's "John Q," in which she stars opposite Denzel Washington.

- Anne Wants Her Own TV Show
- From CNN News> Heche hopes to follow in Ellen's footsteps
- HOLLYWOOD, California -- Anne Heche has found a man she
wants to marry, and now she wants to find a TV show she can
commit to, as well.
The actress will begin meeting with heads of networks and
studios next month, according to Variety.
Heche apparently wants to do what her former girlfriend, Ellen
DeGeneres, did for a living -- star in a TV series. She's
apparently flexible on the genre. Heche recently starred in an
episode of Fox's "Ally McBeal," which set her TV wheels turning.
Heche will have her Scribners autobiography "Call Me Crazy"
published in September and next will be seen starring opposite
Denzel Washington in "John Q" and opposite Christina Ricci in
"Prozac Nation."
Her open relationship with DeGeneres was a regular feature of
tabloids. The pair split last year, and Heche recently announced
she was marrying a cameraman she met while shooting a
documentary on DeGeneres.

to record intros for each of the upcoming 22 episodes of the network's
controversial gay-themed series 'Queer As Folk'. Among those already

of the evening's episode are Camryn Manheim, Laura Dern, Harvey Fierstein, Robert Townsend, Steven Weber, Bruce Davison, Mimi Rogers, Beau Bridges

- Great News! Anne will appear on 3 episodes of Ally McBeal>>
- Monday October 23 07:02 PM EDT
Anne Heche Doing "Ally"
You never know where she's going to show up next. Or with whom!
Anne Heche's latest choice is Ally McBeal.
The equal-opportunity lover has signed on to guest star in Calista Flockhart's quirky Fox series, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Her three-episode story arc will air during November sweeps.
Heche will reportedly play a high-maintenance client seeking legal aid (we presume) from John Cage, played by Peter MacNicol. A Fox rep describes Heche's gig as a "challenging comedic role."
David E. Kelley's legal dramedy appears to be even more eager than Heche to make titillating moves to attract attention. With Flockhart's short skirts passé, the dancing baby bounced and same-sex smooches now almost de rigueur on prime-time programming, the producers now seem to be going out of their way to cast celebs who bring along a lot of baggage. Heche is not the first tabloid headliner to sign on this season.
Ex-jailbird Robert Downey Jr., will be seen, straight from his latest lockdown rehab, as Ally's new love interest when the fourth season of the once very hot show premieres Monday night (9 p.m. ET/PT) following the heavily hyped debut of Kelley’s new teen drama Boston Public.
Heche's gal-pal days with Ellen DeGeneres may be over but she remains grist for the gossip mill. Since her strange walkabout in Fresno following that split (no doubt to be more fully explained in her planned autobiography), she's been linked with a new lover, who is, reportedly, a cameraman. She's also been in Canada filming John Q, an emergency-room hostage drama, with Denzel Washington (who, when asked about his costar's state of mind, told E! Online, "She seems all right to me").
Heche is no stranger to television. Although she's achieved star billing in movies like the remake of the classic thriller Psycho, the castaway romance Six Days, Seven Nights and the political satire Wag the Dog, she was once a soap-opera actress. A decade ago she won a Daytime Emmy as Outstanding Younger Actress for playing evil twins in Another World.

- Thursday September 21 4:34 AM ET
By Jonathan Bing
NEW YORK (Variety) - Anne Heche, whose private life
has been the fodder for countless gossip columns and
late-night gags, has sold her memoirs to Scribner.
Heche has plenty to talk about. Her much-discussed
romance with Ellen DeGeneres is only the latest
development in a life that included considerable
family tragedy.
Her father, a choir director in a Baptist church,
succumbed to AIDS, and her brother was killed in a car
accident.

- Anne receives Lucy Award
- Friday September 8 8:32 PM ET
- Anne Heche Breaks Silence After Split with DeGeneres
- By Sarah Tippit
BEVERLY HILLS (Reuters) - Actress Anne Heche on Friday, in her first public
appearance since breaking up with comedienne Ellen DeGeneres, appeared
nervous and stumbled over her words at first, then called former partner a
``genius'' and a ``marvelous woman.''
Heche took to the podium at the Beverly Hills Hilton to accept a Lucy award
from Women In Film for her work developing and directing a segment of the
HBO movie ``If These Walls Could Talk II,'' a story about a lesbian couple
trying to conceive a baby.
The film was said to be based on the lives of Heche and DeGeneres when they
were a couple. Actress Sharon Stone, who played Heche in the film, stood
near Heche as she accepted the award, but DeGeneres, who co-starred with
Stone and was co-producer, was absent from the ceremony which attracted some
of Hollywood's biggest female stars.
At first Heche stumbled over DeGeneres' name, prompting chuckles from the
audience but she quickly recovered.
``It means so much to me to be able to have Sharon Stone and Ellen DeGen
...,'' Heche said, suddenly tongue-tied and unable to say DeGeneres' name.
Then she placed her hands over her face and shouted: ``Shake it out, baby!''
She started again. ``No matter what you've heard,'' she said, ``I love Ellen
DeGeneres. She is a genius ... She is a marvelous woman so dear to my life
and I love her.'' Shortly before accepting the award Friday, Heche, looking upbeat dressed in
a powder blue jacket, told ``Inside Edition'' that she was moving on from
the incident. ``A breakup is an unfortunate thing in peoples' lives but we
go on and hope for a happier place,'' she said.
Heche added that she was unaware of the incredible media attention that had
been trained on her relationship. ``Honestly I don't watch media coverage of
myself. I wasn't really affected by it. I live my life and go about what I
do.''
When asked about the wandering incident, Heche declined comment. When asked
whether she was dating anybody else, she told reporters: ``Oh please.''
The seventh annual Lucy Awards, named for television pioneer and comedienne
Lucille Ball, honor women who make a difference in television with an award
in the shape of a crystal television set.

- Anne Heche has used her status as one of Hollywood's most visible lesbian
celebrity to raise awareness of gay/lesbian rights issues and the
discrimination that many gays and lesbians must still fight. "Coming
out" at a time early in her career when others, no doubt, advised her
to remain silent, made Heche an instant role model for those still
struggling with their own decisions to come out to family and friends.
Drawing from her own experiences, she has encouraged gays and lesbians
to be comfortable with their sexual preference and urged their peers to
be accepting. Despite the discrimination she faced, and the cynical
media coverage of her highly visible relationship, Heche's career has
flourished. By leading an openly gay/lesbian life, Heche has shown
that the only difference between a "talented" actress and a "talented
gay/lesbian" actress is the label some people place before the noun.

- Ellen, Anne Are History
- Amicable' split after3 yrs. for lesbian comic
- By GEORGE RUSH Daily News Columnist
- Hollywood's most famous same-sex couple, Ellen DeGeneres and Anne Heche, have
split.
"Unfortunately, we have decided to end our relationship," the pair confirmed
to the Daily News in a joint statement yesterday. "It is an amicable parting,
and we greatly value the 3 1/2 years we have spent together. We hope everyone
will respect our privacy through this difficult time."
The two funny blonds weren't divided by a third party, friends said. "The
relationship just ran its course," said a source. "It wasn't working."
Ellen DeGeneres (l.) with Anne Heche (r.) in February
"It was a mutual breakup," said another friend. "They're both very, very
upset."
The two, who'd hung together through a frost brought on by their declaration
of love, seemed to have found their place in the sun this year.
After taking center stage in April at the Equality Rocks concert in
Washington, they collaborated on an HBO film, "If These Walls Could Talk II."
Heche directed DeGeneres and Sharon Stone in the story of a lesbian couple
trying to have a baby. It was a tale that, according to sources, mirrored a
real-life plan for Heche to deliver a baby that she and DeGeneres would raise.
Heche, 31, also set out on a three-month, cross-country bus trip filming
DeGeneres, 43, as she returned to standup, culminating in an HBO cable
special that aired last month.
"It was an act of love," said a friend. Heche's manager, Lauren Lloyd, said
her client would press ahead with the film, now in post-production.
A source said DeGeneres was now living in the couple's Hollywood Hills home,
while Heche was "staying with friends." The pair also had shared a weekend
retreat in Ojai, Calif.
The split is sure to come as a shock to a legion of gay fans who looked upon
the couple as role models.
More than 36 million viewers tuned into DeGeneres' sitcom "Ellen" on April
30, 1997, when she made TV history by becoming the first openly gay lead on a
TV show. DeGeneres ended months of speculation just before the airing when
she declared her homosexuality in a Time magazine cover story, and to Diane
Sawyer.
The month before, she and Heche hit it off at the Vanity Fair Oscar party. A
few weeks later, they went public with their love when they held hands and
nuzzled in front of President Clinton at the White House Correspondents
Dinner.
A year after DeGeneres' historic episode, ABC execs killed her series,
pointing to diminishing ratings. DeGeneres wasn't offered another series.
Heche, who'd starred in "Six Days, Seven Nights" with Harrison Ford, began to
receive fewer scripts.
"I was naive, hugely naive," said Heche, who had romanced actors Steve Martin
and Richard Burgi, in a 1998 interview. "I fell in love, and I didn't believe
people would care."
Their professional troubles only made them more outspoken champions of gay
rights. The pair, who wore wedding rings, declared last October that they
would take their vows in Vermont if the state's Supreme Court legalized
same-sex marriage.
"There is no one who is keeping their fingers crossed more than us," Heche
told a cheering Vermont audience. "We'd love to celebrate that."
Added DeGeneres, "All right, that does it. I'm moving here."
But it wasn't to be.

- From Entertainment Weekly 8/4, a review on "One Kill" to premiere on Showtime August 6th
--Before she became one half of America's favorite lesbian couple, Anne Heche
was simply a terrific actress in such films as Donnie Brasco and The Juror.
She proves her mettle yet again with a top-rank performance as a Marine Corps
captain on trial for the murder of her superior officer/lover(an aptly craggy
Sam Shepard). Eric Stoltz earns a demerit for his wimpy work as Heche's
defense lawyer, but otherwise, this feminist spin on A Few Good Men --
crisply directed by Prime Suspect's Christopher Menaul -- commands attention
as a cracking good military-courtroom drama.

Shooting is scheduled to begin next month.

- An Ink-Stained Heche
- WE HEAR that Anne Heche has agreed to portray columnist Dorothy
Kilgallen in a screen (maybe small screen) version of Lee Israel's
marvelous book, "Kilgallen." Barry Levinson's production company,
Spring Creek, has joined David Yarnell in the project. Author Israel
describes Yarnell as "darling, brilliant and tasteful!" He produced
CBS' "Deep in My Heart," which snared an Emmy for Anne Bancroft, and
also that marvelous American Masters documentary on Billy Wilder.
This should be some movie. Kilgallen was, in my opinion, along with
Walter Winchell, probably the best of the bunch when it came to golden
age columning; her private life was tumultuous, her death mysterious.
There are those who insist that Dorothy "knew too much" about events
surrounding the "suicide" of Marilyn Monroe and the assassination of
John F. Kennedy.
Heche should be sensational in this role. Though she is prettier than
the real Dorothy (cruelly dubbed "the chinless wonder" by Frank
Sinatra), there is some vague resemblance in the cameo face and
delicate complexion. And she's actress enough to convey whatever it is
she needs to as one of the greatest and most controversial "gossip
columnists" of the era.
And considering Anne's sometimes contentious relationship with the
press because of her relationship with Ellen DeGeneres, there is an
extra added frisson of excitement and interest to the idea of her
playing an ink-stained wretch.

Elton John, Anne Heche, Marlo Thomas to Be Honored At
11th Annual GLAAD Media Awards Presented by Absolut Vodka
LOS ANGELES, March 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Gay & Lesbian Alliance
Against Defamation today announced its honorees for the 11th Annual
GLAAD Media Awards presented by ABSOLUT VODKA. The Media Awards will
take place in four ceremonies to be held in New York on April 2, Los
Angeles on April 15, Washington, D.C. on May 13, and San Francisco on
June 3.
At the March 28 New York City ceremony, GLAAD will present the Vito
Russo Award to Elton John and its Excellence in Media Award to Marlo
Thomas. At the Los Angeles ceremonies on Saturday, April 15, GLAAD will
present the Vanguard Award to Elizabeth Taylor and the Stephen F.
Kolzak Award to Anne Heche.
The Stephen F. Kolzak Award, named after a highly successful Los
Angeles casting director who devoted the last part of his life to
fighting AIDS-phobia and homophobia within the entertainment industry,
honors a lesbian or gay member of the entertainment or media community
for their work toward eliminating homophobia. Since her very public
coming-out three years ago, Anne Heche has increasingly involved
herself (along with her partner Ellen DeGeneres) with the struggles of
lesbian and gay youth, and has become a highly visible leader in the
fight for lesbian and gay equality.

- 11/26/99
- Good news for DVD owners, "If These Walls Could Talk", the 1998 HBO movie,
will be released on DVD March 21, 2000. That's just about the same time "If These
Walls Could Talk 2" will debut on HBO
- 10/18/99
- Heche goes in for 'Kill' with Showtime role
- Hollywood Reporter 10/18/99
- Anne Heche is set to star and Sam Shepard is in negotiations to play
opposite her in Showtime's feature "One Kill" for helmer Christopher
Menaul ("The Passion of Ayn Rand"). Shooting is expected to begin on
location in Toronto in a couple of weeks. "One," written by TV scribe
Shelley Evans, is based on a true story of a female Army captain
(Heche), who has an affair with her commanding officer (Shepard). He
winds up stalking her after their breakup and breaks into her home,
where she shoots him after mistaking him for a burglar. She is
court-martialed for his murder before being acquitted. Joel Rice is
producing the project for Showtime.
- 10/15/99
- Anne did a lecture at Syracuse University 10/3/99 with Ellen on gay issues. In that lecture
she said she was going to work on another production for Showtime, this time she will play a Marine.
She also said she will star with William H. Macy on another movie, but nothing else was said about
that project. Also, her HBO project "Miss Conception" will be shown in March, 2000.

- HBO's "If These Walls Could Talk 2" with Anne's "Miss Conception", is tentatively
scheduled to be shown in March, 2000
- 8/19/99
- According to Entertainment Weekly Magazine "The Third Miracle" will be released some
time in December, no exact date yet.
- 8/12/99
- It's time to move on and give my business more time. It's almost three years since
I first started the research for the site. Thanks to all the people who contributed
and made the site what it was. I hope you can give Kathy the same continued support
in the future.
-
- Kathy Perry, who started the Yahoo Anne Heche discussion Club, has agreed to take over
the site. She's eager and brimming with ideas. I can't wait to see what she does
with it!
-
- 6/30/99
- Both Subway Stories, an HBO movie, and Psycho are out on video.
- I did not see Subway Stories when it was first aired. I missed a
lot. Anne is in the Gregory Hines segment titled "Manhattan Miracle" about
an hour into the series of stories. She plays the "distraught woman",
whose face we never see and whose voice we never hear. She uses body language only
in a brilliant depiction of a troubled character. This is why I like this actress.
- I wish I could say the same about Psycho. Having seen it three times, I am
thoroughly sick of it. The DVD out now has a commentary by Van Sant, the
director, with Anne and Vince Vaughn, over the duration of the movie. I
appreciated the technique of all involved, but still thoroughly detested the movie.
Also on the DVD is a 30-minute documentary titled "Psycho Path", on
the making of the movie. This is revealing, since the original is seamlessly (to the
extent you can of both B&W and color clips) edited into both the new and "making
of" footage. As excerpts of the original rolled, I found myself coming off the edge
created by the remake. Psycho Path alone is worth the price of the DVD, and
is far better than the movie itself.
-
- 5/25/99
- Anne turns 30 today. Happy Birthday!
- 4/23/99
- A paraphrase of a press release yesterday: Sharon Stone and Ellen DeGeneres will
star in and executive produce ``If These Walls Could Talk 2,'' a trilogy about the lesbian
experience in America, HBO said Thursday. Anne Heche, who starred in the original
``Walls,'' will be a writer and director.
- 4/12/99
- What happened to Trixie? All the press about Heche appearing in Trixie
is from June last year. Both Corona and
Spliced online, which track
movies in development, have nothing new. Redeemable Features, the company producing
Trixie, doesn't list Trixie as a film in development, and a search of the site
does not mention it. However, an AltaVista search does produce a page about Trixie
on their site -- but it isn't linked to anything else. Thanks for the question, Jenny!
- 4/9/99
- I found a nice AH web site at Zinezone.
- 2/26/99
- Anne has changed agent and manager. Steve Dontanville and Toni Howard at
International Creative Management will rep her and JoAnne Colonna at Artists Management
Group will manager her (thanks for the tip, Jenny!)
- Starpages has linked to us. It has a
good listing of AH-related sites.
- 2/17/99
- Anne and Ellen sold their house in LA (or at least it went into escrow) for $3.5m.
Anne may be switching managers and agents (away from CAA to Ovitz's new firm), but I
haven't heard anything recently on this. There has been no news of new parts for
her, other than The Third Miracle with Ed Harris (they were both in Milk
Money). An article today listed her as one of ten maverick actresses
(accompanying Katherine Hepburn, among others).
-
- 12/08/98
- A site called Celebrity 1000
has given us a nice link. Thanks!
- 12/02/98
- Anne and Ellen seem tired of the constant publicity, or at least the wrong kind.
They plan to leave Hollywood -- sometime. People
Online Daily has a summary of info to date.
- The December 4th Entertainment Weekly has some Psycho publicity with Anne on the
cover.
-
- 11/26/98
- Anne is pictured in a Psycho spread in the latest Vanity Fair.
- 11/03/98
- This site is two years old today!
- 11/02/98
- The current issue of Mirabella has a cover story about Anne. The photographs are
great. For AH followers, the article doesn't break much new ground. For those
unfamiliar with Anne's work and life, the article is a good starting place. (Thanks,
Carrie, for the info)
- 10/26/98
- Anne will apparently appear with Ed Harris in The Third Miracle, an upcoming
movie.
-
- 10/24/98
- Anne will appear again with Vince Vaughn in Psycho, a re-make of Alfred
Hitchcock's masterpiece thriller. Everyone seems to be asking why this film was
made. We'll see. Trailers have already been running on TV, for a film that
opens December 4th or 9th (depends on source). Official
web site doesn't have too much on it yet. Yahoo has some links
to info on the original Psycho.
- There's a "box office top ten" site at http://www.welcome.to/boxofficetop10/.
A good place for keeping score.
- A look at Yahoo's
Anne Heche link shows six AH-related sites. We're growing...
- 8/16/98
- WOW. Anne's performance in Return to Paradise is a tour de force, a phrase
I have used only once before, concerning her appearance in Kingfish. She was
finally given material meaty enough for her talent. The film as a whole is also
excellent, though not as flawless as Anne's work. Nitpicking aside, there are great
photography, moral dilemma, pathos, humor, genuine love in several guises, action and
a few surprise twists. And sexiness without turpitude. You'll get your money's worth.
- 8/15/98
- Return to Paradise, with Anne and Vince Vaughn, was generally released yesterday.
The film has a website. E! Entertainment
Television will show a "behind the scenes" segment about the making of Return
to Paradise this evening and again tomorrow morning. Siskel and Ebert are scheduled to
review the film this weekend -- it's syndicated, so your time will vary. Check out her
films now on TV at TV Now
- 6/13/98
- Six Days Seven Nights opened yesterday to mixed reviews. This film seems to be
the Rorschach test of the year for reviewers, who either were charmed by it or devoutly
hated it. AH gives the warmest performances of her career. She succeeds at
being funny, appealing, and smart (so who is surprised?) without falling into
stereotypes. The movie IS lightweight, cliches DO abound, the script WAS bungled,
but Heche and Harrison Ford are great and great together. If you like that, you'll like
the film.
If you haven't seen the film yet, notice just this one aspect: Heche's
character Robin is supposed to be a hard-charging New York editor. Remember, she lived in
New York during Another World and undoubtedly knows the character
archetype. Yet she makes Robin a person instead of a cartoon, despite a cartoon
script.
- 5/17/98
- There have been a handful of decent articles about, or interviews with, Anne in the last
year, but the one in the June issue of OUT magazine is a good summing-up. (thanks to
Debbie for the tip!)
- 5/15/98
- Various newsbits:
Anne is on the cover of the June/July Detour
She has apparently landed a part in Bruno, a movie to be directed by Shirley
MacLaine.
She will be one of the presenters at the MTV movie awards June 4th.
Here's a site that has lots of photos of Anne, particularly vidcaps (video captures)
from some of her movies: http://shill.simplenet.com/actress/hechea.htm
- 5/6/98
- Anne was selected as one of the "50 most beautiful" of 1998 by People
Magazine. While the accompanying photo is good, it appears to be taken from the
Esquire photo session last year.
- 4/26/98
- 6 days 7 nights is scheduled for release June 12. There is no longer a
web site active.
- 3/6/98
- Catching up on Anne's press: I've added photos from the February US magazine, and
have added most of the large photos from the January Los Angeles magazine. Also note
that there is a great front-page photo of Anne in The Paper, a New York periodical not
widely available (I can't find it). The March Life magazine has a wonderful
interview.
- 1/13/98
- The reviews of Wag the Dog are coming in and are overwhelmingly, though not unanimously,
positive about both the film and AH. I've seen about a dozen reviews, but the one
most on-point about AH's performance was from the Wall Street Journal, of all places:
"When all the elements come together, we're treated to such rare pleasures as the
trio variations, very much like chamber music, of Dustin Hoffman, Robert De Niro and Anne
Heche in Barry Levinson's "Wag the Dog,"..."
Unlike many of her films, she doesn't have to try to carry the film alone -- she meshes
beautifully with De Niro and Hoffman. This is the same person who did Volcano and IKWYDLS?
She has created another wonderful character.
- 12/30/97
- Not only is the text of the January Los Angeles magazine article great, but so
are the photos. A must-buy. Thanks to Debbie for providing me a copy. It is
available on selected newsstands in most US cities, or it will be until the February issue
comes out in mid-January. If you don't see a copy on newsstands, send $2.95 per
copy, specifying the number of copies and the particular issue you want (January 1998) to
(yup, LA magazine comes out of NY):

Wag the Dog has a web site
with good basic information about the film, including cast photos.
- 12/24/97
- Mudpuppy linked to us. This is a great
site for finding celebrity sites. The standard: Sandra Bullock has 62 sites!
- 12/19/97
- There is a feature article on Anne in the January Los Angeles magazine. I've seen
the text, but not the issue itself. It is an excellent interview.
- 12/10/97
- The National Board of Review of Motion Pictures yesterday named Anne as best supporting
actress for Donnie Brasco and Wag the Dog. Now she's getting some
serious recognition for her work!
- 12/04/97
- Wag the Dog opens Dec. 25 in New York and Los Angeles, Jan. 2 in selected cities,
and Jan. 9 for wide distribution (from a New Line Cinema news release). Wag the
Dog also stars Robert DeNiro, Dustin Hoffman, Woody Harrelson, and Kirsten Dunst.
- 11/11/97
- TVNow has a good TV web site including an Anne Heche-specific listing of her movies on
TV. It is similar to that of the TV Guide site after you do a search , but takes
fewer mouse clicks to get what you want. The downside is that it is not updated as
often.
- 11/3/97
- I Know What You Did Last Summer is still #1 at the box office.
- Anne will have a cameo role on Ellen on episode #9, which should
appear sometime in mid-December (this is a correction). Look for Ellen to
ask someone at the next table for something.
- This site is a year old now ("hooray", clap clap, "bravo", etc.).
- 10/20/97
- Anne has yet another great performance in I Know What You Did Last Summer. She is
cast as a poor, backwoods, somewhat sinister, loner. Is there anything she can't do?
The movie is OK too, even if you don't think you like slasher movies.
- 10/17/97
- I Know What You Did Last Summer opens today. Anne is not one of the leads, and is
even omitted from the cast list on Sony's official site for the
movie. She is in the cast. (Beware: the Sony site is sloooow, even with ISDN.)
- 10/01/97
- Thanks to Shannon, here is info from Entertainment Weekly on a film Anne will
appear in.
"Anne Heche may become pregnant next year. No, she won't be carrying
Ellen DeGeneres' love child (unless she's privy to some fertilization process we don't
know about). Rather producer Scott Rudin says he wants to cast the lesbian actress --
who'll be seen this month in I Know What You Did Last Summer -- for the role of
Bill Pullman's pregnant wife in the film adaptation of Scott Smith's novel, A Simple
Plan."
- 9/24/97
- Thanks to a new
site developed by Ryan Smith about I know what you did last summer, here
are some links about Anne's next-appearing film. It opens October 17th. The official site
(not much here yet).
- 9/5/97
- Variety reports that Heche will star opposite Vince Vaughn in Force Majeure (renamed
Return to Paradise). More details at Celebsite.
- 8/19/97
- The new September George issue is a good one! She is listed first of the
"20 most fascinating women in politics". There is a great pattern developing
here. Both straight and gay magazines are saying, in effect, that Anne is (still) OK
with them -- she makes good copy for everyone. This, together with a recent Harrison Ford
quote that was unequivocally positive about Anne in 6 Days, 7 Nights, means that
Anne has been successfully positioned with a spectrum of people. Her PR
still has to make it to mainstream publications, but this is a solid beginning.
- 8/15/97
- Both JF (yesterday) and IF2XDREAM today beat Farcast and Compuserve ENS in reporting
that the September issue of George has an article about Anne on pg 111 (picture on pg
110).
- 7/28/97
- I received some photos from Shooting Stars last
month, which I ordered in February. Of the ten photos they have, I'd say half are
unexceptional, but the technical quality of all is excellent.
- 7/25/97
- Celebsite featured Anne and Ellen
on the "Site of the Day" for the 24th. You can still see it but you may have to
link here first, then scroll to the
bottom and choose 7/24. There is a page
devoted to Anne on this site as well.
The August issue of Esquire has (another)
stunning photo of Anne among its feature articles on "The women we love". Anne
is characterized as "the one who got away". Here is the August Esquire cover.
Unfortunately, I can't find any on-line info from Esquire re Anne.
- 7/16/97
- Ours was the first Anne Heche fan page, but I've hoped all along that one day she would
have closer to the 30+ fan pages that Sandra Bullock has. The second serious Anne Heche
fan page is now on the air.
It is actually a combined Anne and Ellen site, but has plenty of stuff on each of them,
separately. It reports the gossip and maintains a cocky attitude. There are many photos
captured from her movies, all G rated (the photos, that is). A fun place.
- 7/7/97
- Eddie Drueding has added pictures of Anne taken from ca 1990-1 Another World
episodes. Check them out at the Another World Home Page
Gallery.
- 7/1/97
- Do not walk to see Walking
and Talking now out on video. Run. Besides having a fine performance by Anne,
it is an excellent overall movie. Anne does not usually play purely endearing
characters, and that is the case here, but she does her character right. Myself, I loved
the "mole" scenes -- something very true has been captured here.
- 6/12/97
- Anne is on the cover of the current (#736) issue of The Advocate, a national gay and
lesbian magazine. The article inside is about the fluidity of sexuality in contrast to the
"born vs. made" discussion you usually hear. It is not about Anne per se --
she declined an interview. A summary is available at The Advocate. A thoughtful article.
- 6/10/97
- A new version of Launch is out. If you
want the version with Anne, you'll have to ask for issue number 12. Launch is a
CD-ROM magazine covering contemporary music, film, and some sports. It can be found
in some computer stores (I saw it at Fry's) or you can subscribe to it.
- 6/3/97
- To see how far economists will go to prove that "utils of satisfaction" and
the "rational man" really exist, see the Rogue
Market. You get 10,000 free "points" with which to buy "stock" in
celebrities. Yup, Anne is on their list, so I bought 100 "shares". The idea is
to make a profit in your "stocks" (I don't know if the creators are
economists, but they have the same sense of humor.).
- 5/25/97
- Anne's birthday is today! She is 28.
Article from San Jose Mercury News (APWire)
this morning:
'Ellen' News Earns Movie Second Chance
Seizing on the news that Anne Heche is dating Ellen DeGeneres, a film company is reissuing
a little-known movie in which Heche has a lesbian affair. Film company Nulmage is
re-editing "Wild Side, " which never made it to theaters, for a video release.
Executives are hoping to take advantage of the new notoriety of Heche, who has sex scenes
with Christopher Walken, Joan Chen and Steven Bauer.
It needs re-editing, but the company doing the re-editing also did the
original. The blurbs also need to give Anne more credit -- she is far superior to the
material she was given.
- 5/6/97
- Mr Showbiz has her on their home page today.
Mr Showbiz has also added an extensive bio, including
the photo from Volcano you see at the top of
this page.
- 5/5/97
- I added some photos from Anne's days in AW, kindly donated by Eddie Drueding, the
webmaster of the Another World Home Page.
Yahoo now links to us. This is in addition to StarSeeker and Mr
Showbiz.
- 5/2/97
- A few thoughts on Anne's future. Any marketer knows that you need to position your
product before anyone else does and better than anyone else does to be successful.
Unfortunately, she has already been positioned. The risk in Heche's situation is that the
media's positioning of her primarily as "gay" and "Ellen's girlfriend"
will stick to the exclusion of all else. If Heche were untalented or lacked willpower, I'd
worry this positioning would be permanent. Fortunately, she has neither problem. Her
appearance on talk shows has started this long-term process, but ultimately it will be her
work in film, on both sides of the camera, that will most determine the outcome. She will
always be better than her material.
- 4/30/97
- Heche was wonderful with Ellen on Oprah's show today. It was another great moment
showing how she both acts and lives life -- no fear, nothing held back.
- 4/28/97
- Star Seeker made us their "pick of the
week" (now the link is actors
and actresses there).
- 4/25/97
- Heche is on the cover of Entertainment Weekly with Tommy Lee Jones. There
is lots of info inside about Volcano. I saw Volcano and it is worth it just to see
Heche. It isn't bad as a disaster flick, either. It is really good if you love or
hate LA. Siskel and Ebert panned the movie, but they said nothing about her --
someday they will figure it out.
- 4/18/97
- The Volcano web site (http://www.volcano.com)
material includes bios of cast, storyboards and stills from the movie, and info on
earthquakes in general.
- 2/24/97
- Donnie Brasco was released. Heche has the female lead and does what she has many times
before -- she takes a very few minutes of screen time and makes a whole character out of
limited dialog. The movie got good reviews from almost everyone, and Heche got good
reviews from almost everyone.
- 1/5/97
- She wrote, directed and produced a short film, "Stripping for Jesus" which she
is trying to get shown at film festivals. Haven't heard whether she has had any success.
