BMW 507

1955 - 1959

The BMW 507 was designed, as direct competition to the Mercedes 300 SL, by Albrecht Goertz, who was also the designer of the famous Datsun 240Z and James Bond's Toyota 2000GT. Built almost entirely by hand they took a long time to complete and thus were very expensive. Although they were seldom successful on the race track and never really threatened the Mercedes sports cars they have become one of the most sought after post war BMW’s. Only 253 of these magnificent cars were produced between 1955 and 1959.
Powered by an all alloy 3168cc V8 developing 119kW (160bhp) the BMW 507 could get to 96kph from standstill in 9 seconds. With a four speed gearbox and the longest axle ratio available this sports car could reach a maximum speed of 225kph (140 mph).
