Porsche 911S
(1964-1973)
by Ryno du Plessis

"Fantasy, it often seems to us, features as strongly in the minds of many designers of expensive GT cars as it does in the daydreams of a blindly admiring public. The fact is that many costly motor cars do not live up to their exalted reputations: perhaps they cannot cruise for long periods at high speeds without giving trouble, possibly an ordinary Mini is quicker around corners, or in some cases they are simply unreliable. One of the few exceptions to this rule is the Porsche 911: developed from the original Beetle concept, this real-engined GT is an example of expert engineering coupled with down-to-earth common sense."
