One of the worlds most underrated cars started life in the 70's as a joint project between Porsche, VW and Audi. Needing a replacement for the 914, Porsche decided to take it over as a pure Porsche project. It was launched in 1975 as the 924. Even though the Audi 2-litre endowed the 924 with brisk acceleration, it stopped the 924 from being accepted as a real Porsche. Although a Turbocharged model put the 924 in Porsche territory, the inferior image remained. When the 944, with bolder wheelarches, appeared in the early 80's, it was powered by a proper Porsche 2.5-litre four-cylinder. Nearly all its ties with Audi had been removed by then. The 944 was continuously improved, throughout its lifespan until 1993, when the significantly revamped 968 replaced it.

Even though many people never accepted it as a true Porsche, the owners of these wonderful cars think otherwise.
