Alfa Romeo SZ

by Ryno du Plessis

The eventual design that Zagato of Milan came up with for the Alfa Romeo SZ was so outrageous the Italians immediately dubbed it 'Il Monstro' (the monster). Beneath the extraordinary wedge body, which consisted of lightweight plastic composites, resided the mechanics of the Alfa Romeo 75 racing version. Under the louvred bonnet was the well known Alfa Romeo 3 litre V6 engine modified and tweaked to produce 207bhp. This well balanced combination resulted in a top speed of 245kph and a 0-100kph time of approximately seven seconds. Only 1035 were built.
