Mini Cooper S

by Ryno du Plessis

The ubiquitous Mini will not be
remembered for it's comfort, luxury or
smooth ride, yet it has left an indelible mark on the
history of motoring. Those who have owned one will fondly
remember the go-cart like roadholding, the eager performance, the
miserly fuel consumption - and less fondly the notorious fuel pump and a distributor
that would not allow you to splash through puddles.

Owned by Paul Le Roy, of Pretoria South Africa, this Mini began it's life as a 1275 Cooper S Mk3. It was exported first of all to Canada, and then shipped to South Africa, where it was changed to right hand drive. Since then it's engine was modified by Minispeed and ended up as a 1430cc. It rides on factory 12x7 Minilites shod with 165x60 Bridgestones. Hi-Lo's all round and an antiroll bar at the rear takes care of the road holding.
