The Hawker Hurricane was England's main monoplane fighter when World War II began. It's armament of eight machine guns and speed of 483 km/h (300 mph) made it ideal for intercepting bombers and helped the Royal Air Force stop the 1940 German air offensive against Britain, which culminated in the Battle of Britain.
