Living with HIV/AIDS

We are all living with HIV, whether we personally have HIV or through having a family member or close friend who may have HIV or who has died due to AIDS related symptoms.

I have lost many friends to complications related to AIDS. I myself have HIV and was for time classified as having "full-blown" AIDS. I presently have non-detectable levels of HIV in my system. This miracle is due to the three drug therapy that my doctor had the good sense to put me on as soon as I became sick with pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP), in 1995. I spent a year fighting for my life, PCP three times, CMV-Respiratory Herpes, Thrush, fatigue, and reactions to medications including: vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, nausea, you name it.

We all have our crosses to bare. I feel fortunate that God has given me the opportunity to learn from my experiences. I am not sure of my purpose in life, but I am sure my life has purpose. I have been given a second chance and I will not waste it.

Update - 08/02/2000 -- I'm at under 50 viral load and my t-cells are at 537, I'm in the best health I've been in for five years.
