Requires: 3/8 yard (34 cm) spandex; 1 yard (92 cm) of 1/4 inch (6 mm) black elastic Level: Easy |

1) Arrange pieces of fabric with right sides facing each other. |
2) Sew straight seam 1/4-inch (6 mm) from edge. | |
3) Sew a wide zigzag stitch around edge shown, being sure the outside of the stitch catches the edge as you sew | |
4) Open pouch and lay flat. Next fold edge (right side over wrong) of fabric 3/8-inch (9 mm) inward as shown. |
5) Secure fold by sewing a straight stitch 1/4-inch (6 mm) from edge as shown. | |
6) Cut 1 piece of 1/4-inch (6 mm) elastic for waist that 26 inches (65 cm) long. Cut 1 piece of 1/4-inch (6 mm) elastic for crotch that is 8 inches (20 cm) long. Secure one end of the 9-inch (22.5 cm) piece of elastic to bottom of pouch with wide zigzag stitches using a stitch width of 1 mm. | |
7) Butt ends of waistband elastic to form a loop and stitch with a wide zigzag, using a 1 mm stitch width. |
8) Match the seam of the elastic with the center seam of the pouch and pin center of waistband elastic to wrong side of fabric, flush with cut edge.Pin left edge of pouch to elastic 3 inches (7.5 cm) from center pin.Repeat with right edge. | |
9) Using zigzag stitch, sew elastic to edge of fabric, stretching elastic evenly as you sew. Make sure stitch catches the edge of fabric. | |
10) Fold fabric right side over wrong to hide elastic. Secure fold with a straight stitch. |
11) Curl crotch elastic behind and over waistband as shown. | |
12) Fold crotch elastic 1 inch (25 mm) from end, so that it makes a loop over waistband and secure with a wide zigzag stitch using a 1 mm stitch width. Be sure NOT to catch waistband elastic in stitching as you sew. The loop should slide freely along waistband. After sewing, clip excess elastic where indicated. | |
13) Finished garment. |
