Requires: 1 yard (91.5 m) spandex; 1-1/2 yards (1.37m) of 3/8 inch (9mm) elastic; 1 yard (91.5m) of 1/2-inch (13mm) elastic.
Level: Fairly easy

 

 

  • Place pattern on fabric as indicated.
  • Trace pattern onto fabric with tracing wheel.
  • Use a ballpoint needle for spandex.
  • Use a stitch length of 3mm on straight seams.
  • Sew straight seams 1/4 inch (6mm) from edge.
  • Use a stitch length of 4mm on zigzag seams.
  • Use widest setting on zigzag seams.
  • Stretch fabric as you sew.
 

 

1) Arrange front to back with right sides facing each other. Using a straight stitch, sew crotch seam 1/4 inch (6mm) from edge.

 

 

2) Sew a wide zigzag stitch along crotch seam, being sure the outside of the stitch catches the edge as you sew.

 3)Sew front to back at sides, using a straight seam 1/4 inch (6mm) from edge.
 4)Complete by sewing a wide zigzag over side stitching, being sure the outside of the stitch catches the edge as you sew.

 

5) Cut 3 pieces of elastic as indicated :

Waist Elastic (1 piece, 1/2 inch (13mm) wide)
S = 26 inches (65 cm) ; M = 27 inches (67.5 cm) ; L = 28 inches (70 cm)

Leg Elastic (2 pieces, 3/8 inch (9mm) wide)
S = 19 inches (47.5 cm); M = 20 inches (50 cm); L = 21 inches (52.5 cm)

Butt ends of 1 piece of elastic to form a loop and stitch with a wide zigzag, using a 1 mm stitch width. Divide elastic into fourths and mark with pins.Repeat for other pieces of elastic.

 6) Divide leg hole into fourths, match with pins on leg elastic and pin elastic to wrong side of fabric.
 7) Using zigzag stitch, sew elastic to edge of fabric, stretching elastic evenly as you sew. Make sure stitch catches the edge of fabric. Repeat with other leg.

 

 

8) Divide waist into fourths and pin elastic to wrong side of fabric where marked.

9) Using a wide zigzag stitch, sew elastic to edge of fabric, stretching elastic evenly as you sew. Make sure stitch catches the edge of fabric.
 10) Fold elastic to wrong side of fabric, so the edge of the elastic is enclosed by fabric. Using a wide zigzag stitch, sew elastic to fabric, stretching firmly as you sew.

 

  11) Finished garment.
