Much of the opposition to the attempt to treat gay and lesbian residents as equal citizens has come from those who cite a very fundamentalist interpretation of the Christian Bible. This article from the Galesburg Zephyr, by a regular writer and self-professed expert on the Bible, is an example of the arguments cited against homosexuality.
