Chile and Argentina 2004/2005

This page shows a few pictures from my trip to Chile and Argentina with Encounter Overland (now known as Dragoman), a month-long trip that took place in December 2004 and January 2005. Photos are taken with an Olympus C-740 Ultra Zoom. You can click on one of the small images text to see a larger image.

Plaza de Armas Arriving in Santiago in mid-December was a welcome change from the English winter. The Christmas decorations were up in the city's main square, the spacious and pleasant Plaza de Armas.
Lunch at Volcano Lanin Eventually I met up with the rest of the Encounter Overland group - a diverse mixture of mostly Brits, Australians and Europeans - and we set off Southwards. This picture shows a typical lunch stop. Our truck is in the foreground to the right, and Volcano Lanin (3746 m) is in the background.
Villarrica Summit Group shot on the summit of Volcano Villarrica (2847 m) in Pucon. From left to right, myself, Richard, Claire, Angela, Mel, Andy, Amy, Ant, and our local guide whose name I don't remember. The matching outfits were lent to us for the day by the tour company in Pucon that organized our climb.
Los Cuernos One of the highlights of the trip was camping at the Torres del Paine national park in Chile. The image shows the view of the peaks known as "Los Cuernos" as seen from our campsite.
Perito Moreno glacier Another high point was watching huge chunks of ice from the Perito Moreno glacier fall into the lake, Lago Argentino, situated at the end of the glacier.
