No recap of my family would be complete without a tribute to our Aunt Mae.
Aunt Mae is our grandmother's sister and has fulfilled, for us in Renfrew, the role of grandmother as we lost ours so early in our lives. With enough love in her heart for all of us and anyone else that we bring into our lives, Aunt Mae is a true symbol of what Christ's message of love and kindness was all about.
Working as a housekeeper for the priests until her retirement (at the age of 82!) Aunt Mae has lived to serve God in her own way and has been an example to all her nieces, nephews, grand-nieces/nephews and great-grand-nieces/nephews. Her love of life and family is surpassed only by her faith and devotion to God. If you ever had a problem you'd just ask Aunt Mae to say some extra prayers and you would immediately feel that things would get better. Actually we just figured that EVERYONE listened to Aunt Mae, so even God had to ask "How high?" when she said "jump"! *grin*
Known only as "Aunt Mae" to friends of our family, she is definitely the "matriarch" of the McCann family telling us stories of growing up in Maynooth and her time with the priests. She is also a valuable resource to get dirt on our father when he was our age! |
