When it gets right down to it, good skin care is THE most important part of makeup. Smooth, healthy,
skin is far less difficult to make up, and obviously, the less wrinkles you have, the smoother
your face, the more feminine you will look and the more passable you will be. Women have a distinct
advatage here in that their estrogen produced from puberty onward does keep their skin smoother
and more supple. BUt it's not imposible for us gender gals to smooth things out. Here's how:
I really fell into skin care through the help of an old flame. Her friend was selling a new
line of men's skin care product, and gave me a demo one night of the entire line, including a
masque and massage. I remember how wonderful it felt, and the deep relaxing feeling I felt was like
nothing I had ever had before. Alos, I was trying to get in good with the new girl friend, so
I bought the entire line, and began using it. I quickly noticed the differnece in the way my skin
felt and looked, and how my on and off again skin conditions immediatly cleared up. The girl friend
went by the way - (when she discovered my other side) - but my love affair with skin care continues
to this day.
I regularly consult with professionals on this - there are so many new products and treatments
coming out that it's best to follow some professional advice here. We all have different types
of skin, and react differently to various products. What works for me will probably not work for
you. But I can give you some general guidelines of what to do:
1) When I get up in the morning, I shower, do my hair treatment, but wash my face with water only.
After I get out and shave (c'mon electrolysis - I HATE shaving) I apply my daytime facial
creme. This acts as a hydrator to moisturize my face and a protectant to keep out ultraviolet
rays that will age the skin. There are plant emulsifiers in the product I use that also help clean
and cleanse throughout the day. The point is my skin will be kept MOIST and not dry out. This is the
foundation of keeping healthy skin and preventing wrinkles - moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!
2) In the afternoon, I reapply some daytime cream after work or the beach on weekends. I'm VERY
careful about protecting from sun exposure - I use a SPF 45 when outdoors. I have a dark "base"
tan as we call it here in Florida, but it has been acquired carefully over a long period of time.
Sun damaged skin drys out, and then wrinkles. Much also depends on your complexion. Us girls with
a more olive or dark complexion can tolerate sun, be safer, and not wrinkle up as much.
3) When I am putting on my face, I use a supermoisturizer creme right before I apply my foundation.
Makeup will aso dry out and damage your skin, the creme will help and also allow the makeup to
go on easier by lubricating the skin.
4) In the evening, before going to sleep (unless I have company - and then I don't sleep for
a long, long, time anyway (she smiles slyly..) ) I use a cleanser which I apply with a kleenix and
pick up and INCREDIBLE amount of gunk. After that, I have a creme cleanser which I apply with
water to make a second cleaning pass but also to moisturize as the lotion tends to be acidic.
Lastly, I apply my night creme which is a special hydrator.
Yes - that's alot of work. That's what it takes to keep your skin young. However, there are girls
in their sixtys that have absolutly beautiful, wrinkle-free faces that I know. And with their
figures, they still get the guys. And can easily pass for 30 years younger. I intend to be one of
these old leches when I get there (and don't be wise - I'm not there yet or anytime soon - although
let's face it, folks - I already am a lech.
