How Should I Act on Channel?
One of the first things a new sub asks is "how do i act?" or "what do i do?". This is an attempt
to answer those questions. They are not meant to dictate exactly what to say or do, but to
provide a guideline which may be tailored to each indiviual's personality.
- Be polite. Dom/mes should be addressed in a respectful
manner. It is customary to address them as Sir or Ma'am.
- Remember that Dom/mes will have a capital letter at
the beginning of their nick. NOT always so ALWAYS be respectful
to everyone in the channel. If unsure just ask an operator
- Learn the channel rules. Channels can differ in what is
acceptable and what is not. Often, this will be part of the topic
or retrievable by some simple commands. When in doubt, ask
one of the channel ops.
- No trolling. Most bdsm channels do not allow it. Trolling
means bluntly asking for a play or sex partner. It is rude and
uncouth.
- Do not interfere with a Dom/me and their sub(s). Do not
assume that the sub or Dom/me needs "help".....unless
specifically asked.
- Do not interrupt a scene. Scening is when a Dom/me and sub
"play" on the open channel. It is considered rude to continue
talking in the channel during a scene.
- Be yourself. Putting on an act may work at first, but it is hard
to keep it up and will be disdained, when discovered. And it
will be discovered.
- Use common sense. A little common sense about people and
situations goes a long way.
- Don't constantly air you personal problems on the channel. We
are all human and we all have problems. This does not mean you
cannot ask for help.....just remember the fable of the boy who
called "wolf" too often.
- Have patience. It takes time to meet and get to know people.
And every day, more and more people come to IRC.
Have fun! Isn't that why we are all here?
