Janey's First Outing.
This is the true story of my first ever outing, en femme. On Saturday the 12th of October, 1998, my wife, M, had to go to a business conference in Toronto. The conference was only on the Saturday, and my good friends Mary [a CDer] and her wife, W, suggested that I join my wife after the conference and come for a visit to their home. As they live fairly near Toronto, it was also put to me that we could spend a couple of nights in the big city and that I should be en femme for all of the above. It was agreed that they would pick us up on the Sunday morning at our hotel and drive us to their home. Mary and W had spent a week at our home earlier in the year, so, we were no strangers to each other and I had dressed with Mary at that time. I had never gone out, though.
When we arrived, I lost no time in getting changed to a skirt and blouse and Mary decided that we would all sit out on the front porch and relax. Relaxing was the furthest thing from my mind at this point. I was about to step over the front door for the first time. EEK! Mary's porch has a solid wall running along the front, at about the height of a table, and she pointed out that no one could really
tell what I was wearing while I was sitting down. Also the house is a little way back from the road and most people passing don't even look. This helped me and soon I was quite relaxed and thinking that this was going to be a nice relaxing holiday. Mary however had other plans.
The next morning, Mary announced that W had a doctor's appointment at the hospital. We were all going with her, and after she was finished we were going for a walk in the park along the river bank, but, I would be dressed. After getting my wife, M's approval and getting a critical once over from W, I was all set in my blue skirt, pink top, stockings and black flat pumps. I had my makeup and lipstick on and carried my purse. At this point I was wishing I had never eaten those butterflies for breakfast. Mary backed the car out of the garage until it was just at the front porch steps, and I ,looking at W, said, "You realize that this is a small step for a man, but a giant step for Janey?" pointing, as I said it to the top step of the porch that I was about to step over for the first time. W laughed and said I looked fine and had nothing to worry about. Mary, BTW was dressed in an androgenous manner, so I was the only one in a skirt and heels. W and M were dressed casual.
I stepped off the porch on to the first step and waited for the world to end. Nothing happened. The birds continued to sing and the rest of the world went about its business. I made it to the car and discovered that you can not leap in to a high 4X4 vehicle in a tight skirt, no matter how scared you are. I remembered how to do it by sitting backwards on the edge of the seat and swinging my legs in, keeping them together in a lady like manner.
We drove to the hospital and dropped W off at the main door. Mary drove round to the parking lot and we settled in to wait for W. The only place we could find vacant was about three rows away from the edge of the parking lot. Also the lot was on a higher level and the hospital door was down over a grassy embankment and out of sight. There was a flight of stairs going down. W had given us an idea how long she would be and after the allotted time, Mary said to me, "Go over and see if she is there yet." "ME?" I squeaked. "Yes, you", said Mary. With my heart in my mouth, I opened the door, swung my legs out and stood up. I was in the open lot for everyone to see. There seemed to be no one around the immediate vicinity, so, trying not to walk like a navvie, I timidly started to walk. Just as I was crossing the next row, a lady pulled her car into an empty space and stopped right beside me. She was no more than about three feet away from me, with nothing between us but the glass of her window. Tying not to break into a frantic run, I walked on, and she didn't even pay the slightest attention to me. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry with relief, or sit down on the ground before my knees gave way.
Feeling a little braver now, I walked over to the edge of the lot and looked down over the grassy bank towards the hospital door. No sign of W. I turned and walked back to the car. This time there was no one near. I got into the car without losing too much dignity (I was getting the hang of it) and settled in feeling pleased with myself.. "Janey", says Mary, "next time take your purse. A woman never goes without her purse." So much for feeling pleased with myself. After a short while, I was again sent to look for W. I made sure that there was no one too near before I ventured to walk over again. I got to the bank and there was W looking around, obviously wondering where we were. I waved and she saw me and started towards the steps, and I, complete with purse and new self confidence (because there was no one near) walked over to the top of the steps to meet her. She came up the steps and gave me a big smile and we walked to the car together.
Chapter 2. The Park.
We all climbed in to the car again, Mary driving, W in the front and M and I in the back. Off we drove to the park. This park is huge and on the bank of the Thames river. We drove in to the parking lot and I was glad to see that, as it was a working day, there was no one around. We all got out and the first thing I noticed was a carouselle. There was no one on it, but I could here music coming from it. Mary suggested we walk along the path towards an old pump house that was now used for storage, and off we went. Mary and I were ahead and the two wives were hanging back talking. I suspect my wife did not want to be seen too close to me at this point.
We had only gone a few steps when suddenly I saw a man coming towards us. "Mary, there's a guy coming." I said in a panic stricken voice. "Too bad", said Mary, "the car's locked." Some friend I thought, wishing the ground would open up. The guy strolled past and didn't bat an eye. Whew! What a relief. A short walk further on and here comes a tall elegant black lady. She looked so gorgeous and self assured. "Gawd", I thought, "she is bound to read me." I was ready to leap over the nearest hedge by this time. The elegant lady strolled past without so much as a glance in our direction. Another reprieve, but how long could it go on?
We walked on until we came to the old pump house and the only ones who passed were a guy on a bike who was going too fast to notice, and a roller blader who came up behind and passed us and didn't see my face. At the pump house, we posed for pictures and I was feeling pretty relaxed when out of the pump house comes a council worker who starts messing around with a grass cutting machine. I have to pass him to get back to the path. We collect the girls and after a few more pictures we stroll past the guy at the machine, and he doesn't pay any attention to us. We walk back to the car without anyone else seeing me and I collapse on the back seat and let out a huge sigh of relief. My ordeal is over for the day. Or so I thought.
Chapter 3 The Mall
"Now we need a few things at the grocery store", says Mary. "We will go to the mall." I had said I wanted to pick up a lipstick and some of those throw away razors for shaving my legs. "You can get your things at the same time", continued Mary. "Yeah", I thought, "in your wildest dreams, Mary." We drove to the mall and it was agreed that Mary would take my wife into the grocerie store to pick up a few things for dinner. W said that she would go with me to the drug store to get my lipstick and razors. They were very persuasive, pointing out that no one knew me or would ever see me again. Mary and M went off first and then, again with my heart in my mouth, I walked with W across the busy parking lot and in to the main entrance of the mall. So far no one had read me.
We chose a lipstick, picked up the razors and W said, "Now you have to buy those yourself." She then coached me in how to talk. "Just take the bass overtones out of your voice", she said, "and speak in a quiet voice." I walked up to the checkout with W hovering close by, ready to run interference if I got in trouble. I handed the girl my purchases and she looked me right in the eye and din't show the slightest sign of having read me. I spoke as little as possible and joining W, headed out of the door into the parking lot. After that, walking across the lot was easy. One problem, Mary and my wife were not back yet and W did not have a key for the car. "I know", said W, "I want to look at some plant pots. They have them just inside the front door of the mall." Off we went across the lot again, but this time I was a bit easier in my mind. No one had even glanced at me as I walked along.
We got inside, browsed among the plant pots and headed back to the car again. Still no sign of Mary and M. "I know, said W, "let's go for a stroll around the mall. We'll be just two girls out shopping." By this time I was feeling a bit braver, so I agreed and off we went for the third time across the parking lot. Inside the main door the mall was a circular arrangement, so we strolled round with W chatting away to make my nerves settle, and me nodding and smiling and looking dead casual and dying a death every time someone walked past, which was about every five seconds. We walked right round to out starting point and out the main door and across the lot and found Mary and M standing at the car wondering where we were. We got in and drove home, with my euphoria mounting by the minute as I ran over in my mind the things I had done. Janey had come out of the closet. But the adventure was just beginning. We still had to go to Toronto.
