Dead Or Alive Boudoir Noir

THE STRANGER

FORMAT:

  • THE STRANGER UK 7" single (Black Eyes BE2) May 1982

Released in May 1982 on the heels of the successful IT'S BEEN HOURS NOW EP. It's appearance coincided with Dead Or Alive headlining the 1982 Futurama show in Leeds, along with The Damned and The Southern Death Cult (later the Cult).

Music critic Robbi Millar, on reviewing The Stranger, wrote, "Pete Burns must be gnashing his teeth over the recent successes of Culture Club and Haysi Fantaysee. After all, he was managing to look like a right Nancy before any of these dreadlocked imposters, plus his single, an atmospheric grower with vocals that manage to sound mournful rather than dismal, knocks spots off ditties about close encounters of the anal kind." Millar was also reviewing Culture Club's first hit Do You Really Want To Hurt Me and noted scornfully that The Stranger was "aeons better than the lily-livered Culture Club offering."
