"I don't like the song that much," Pete told Melody Maker's Sandy Robertson when referring to DOA's pre-SPIN ME hit. "I did it with Nightmares In Wax and when I did the album, I thought I'd have to lay that old dog to rest. I think we wipe the floor with it, the original isn't that good. Sadly, I think we'll have a hit simply because it's a cover version." He added in another interview, "I loathe 'That's The Way'. It probably sounds really pretentious saying that, but we only did it for a joke. It was a bit of fun. I don't want to bite the hand that feeds me, but I can't stand the thoughts of of K.C. collecting all those songwriting royalties and PRS payments for our version of the song because he simply cannot wrote songs. I got so sick of that record, every time I went out there'd be kids following me going, 'That's the way, uh-huh, uh-huh.' It was so annoying!"
'That's The Way' reached Number 29 in the English charts and brought Dead Or Alive to national attention. The video was filmed at Arsenal football grounds and featured muscle-bound females from the English Federation of Body Builders cavorting with the band in the steam room, showers, and weight room. Pete later dismissed this artistic endeavor as 'crap', but for the band, it was their first shot heard round the world.
