ALL ABOUT BOAT LIFE

My Parents and I moved aboard our 45 foot sailboat in 1986. I was eleven years old at the time, and absolutely positive that my Parents were Crazy. They had sold our house, and their business, and we were going to sail of into the Sunset.............

You see, when I was a small child my father had a blood clot on his brain, it was removed successfully, and at that time he decided that life was just too short to work himself to the grave!

My parents had been talking about this venture ever since I was very small, but I never thought it would turn into a reality......but it did, and so we set sail. I took a correspondence Course for my schooling, my parents were my teachers. Not to mention the mere education that traveling has to offer. We visited several different Countries: Mexico, Belize, Honduras, Guatemala, Grand Cayman, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, and the Virgin Islands. It was a wonderful way to grow up! We spent about 6 months in each location. It was truly an education within itself I learned so much about different cultures, and met lot's of interesting people! There were other families cruising with their children, so besides making local friends I had lot's of boat kids to pal around with too.

We had pets aboard the boat, our dog who kept us safe in many a Third World harbor, and "Spinnaker" the sailing kitty. The cat was our royal tester......... she tasted all of the fish to make sure it was okay for our consumption. Living aboard the boat did have some disadvantages, all in all though, we had the comforts of a nice home! One nice thing about living on a boat............. if you don't like your neighbors.......you can move your house :-)

I love sailing, and the freedom of being at sea. It is really such a feeling of adventure to strike out to Sea in your own vessel! The Vagabond life is definitely for me!! The most exciting way to live!
